FWST Realignment Article - NOW I'M CONFUSED!

Speculation that North Texas was planning for a move was further heightened last week when its board of regents authorized President Lane Rawlins to explore options for conference realignment.

According to an agenda outlining Wednesday's board of regents meeting, MWC teams joining CUSA would be Nevada-Las Vegas, New Mexico, Colorado State, Air Force and Wyoming. Three schools planning to join the MWC this year -- Fresno State, Nevada-Reno and Hawaii -- are also joining the new CUSA, which would also include Louisiana Tech from the WAC and UNT Sun Belt-peer Florida International.

CUSA expansion has been rumored since the defections of SMU, Houston, Central Florida and Memphis to the Big East last year.

A spokesman in UNT's athletic department said the school had no immediate plans for an announcement and would have no comment "until we know something official and at this point we don't."

lulz... this is getting funnier and funnier... but that proposed conference would be the awesomeness

Unless this is a new development that causes CUSA not to offer UNT a spot.

Since just about everyone else is reporting UNT, La Tech, FIU, and nUTSAck to CUSA, I tend to give this article little credibility.

THe comments by the UNT spokesperson are concerning, though.

They have to say that until it is all signed on the dotted line.

The FWST is a thrid or fourth source of sports news for me. When it comes to sports news, I trust Dale Hansen. Unlike the newspapers, Dale is not at all about sensationalism. (haha)

Too bad TMZ doesnt cover college football. They've been right about almost everything over the past four years. Just sayin...

And CUSA would say the following? :rolleyes1:

"Upon further review, we chose not to offer the school located in the area of which our conference office is located a membership; that is, a membership to the largest school with the largest number of alums in the south/central geographical footprint of CUSA that has the most years of NCAA D1 history than any of any of the others new schools and (in fact) more D1 years of existence than many of our present membership."

I think somebody is having a little fun at North Texas expense.

Here's one for you Fort Worth Star Telegram to put in a future sports page article that's probably closer to the truth: "Look for UT-Austin to leave the Big 12, buddy back up with TAMU by joining the SEC or going rogue a la TAMU by joining the PAC 12. " (Put that one in your paper FWST and see how much local purple tinted responses you'd get).

This adds even more fuel to fire. UNC Charlotte Declines Sun Belt Invite (ESPN).

"The UNC Charlotte 49ers have declined an offer to join the Sun Belt Conference, according to a source.

The 49ers, who are in the Atlantic 10, are eyeing a bid to Conference USA, the source said.

A source with knowledge of the A-10's plans said the league expects Charlotte to leave, possibly as early as 2013 but it could be 2014.

Charlotte has approved football for the 2013 season and, were it to join the Sun Belt, would have given the conference a 12th football-playing school and a 13th school overall with the Sun Belt's recent addition of Georgia State for 2013.

For its part, C-USA is prepared to welcome in Texas-San Antonio ahead of a planned merger with the Mountain West Conference.

That proposed move would create a new league with up to 24 schools.

C-USA's actions come in the wake of losing Houston, SMU, Memphis and Central Florida all to the Big East."
