he was top 3 all time tecmo bowl defensive talent along with Reggie White and LT. ronnie lott made a strong case for himself in the 1st installment of the series and either deion sanders or rod woodson should only be considered in the special teams category.

Do we know for a fact that he had brain damage related to concussion syndrome, or are you just making an assumption?

But I agree, kids should be steered toward baseball or basketball and away from football. I love the sport, but don't know if I would let my child play it.

Very much an assumption based on the shotgun to the chest and how it happened/recent events.

In my defense, an NBC editor probably snipped that all together for me. Luckily, she's been let go.

I agree it is one of the most selfish acts a human being can do, but I also don't think it is something most humans in a rational place would ever want to do. I'm always torn on how much to blame the person versus their conditions, but as 90 pointed out, I'm making a lot of assumptions based on stories, the overall sentiment among former NFL players as well as a few personal experiences.

I used to very much think "what a selfish a-hole" when these types of stories came out anywhere, but now I'm kind of always in a gray area with it -- especially since the whole Duerson thing.

One of my friends posted this last night of facebook. He is not one of those people that write about all their problems or whatever. Usually he's posting movie related stuff (since we're both film guys, trying to break into the "biz" in Los Angeles, this makes sense). I've known the guy for a couple of years and had no idea he had ever tried to commit suicide, and his note did make me rethink how we all sometimes demonize those who do as "weak" or "selfish."

This guy is one of the most fun loving types I have ever known, and it always making jokes/laughing. He's also good with the ladies. It's a total cliche, but he'd be one of the last people I'd ever expect to have tried to kill himself. Severe depression is something that I am not sure we really have a handle on.

Junior Seau killed himself today. It's very likely that you know someone who's committed or attempted suicide. It's easy but dangerous to look at that as a selfish act. The way people talk about suicide often makes it harder for people to come forward to others to say that they're thinking about it. If they're afraid to speak to someone for how they'll be perceived, the likelihood that they'll do it increases. The talk of people after suicide as being "weak" or "cowardly" makes those who think about it possibly feel like they would just be told they are weak and things aren't so bad. So often it's buried. Junior Seau buried it. If someone is lost to suicide their lives should be looked at for the good points; it's sad you couldn't help, but it's done and try to look at the good parts of their lives. I just wanted to post something for people to think about how they respond to these issues. If you say you don't know anyone, I know you do, because if you're friends with me it is something that I too have attempted (in 2003) and only talked to people about that afterward. Not before.

It is my birthday this week and, nine years later, I am grateful for my family that I have become closer to and my friends that I now know. There are many things from my life that I couldn't talk about until the past year. That's a blessing. It's hard to turn a corner. If anyone does feel these thoughts from time to time, I feel you and I'll talk to you. This is a weird forum to post that admission, but if it will make someone stop and think, I am glad

As of this morning I thought it was not ruled a suicide till the coroner examines him later today. Not that it makes his death any less tragic.

Steroids, maybe? I have never heard that he was in any way connected to steroids, but it seems some reports are out there linking steroid use to suicide.....what a tragedy, the guy was, what, 43 years old and has 2-3 kids. What a waste...very very sad.
