Thanks for the links. I guess the "Old" in Old Dominion doesn't exactly mean that it's old. I always just assumed that it was an older university, and I actually spent some time in Virginia several years back. Seems like CUSA could have made a better choice (Middle, WKU, A-State), but some of their decision making seems to be a bit suspect these days (SA). Oh well, it is what it is.

Methinks this was more of an olive branch for ECU and (maybe) even Marshall from the CUSA HQ's here in the Metroplex.

ODU has that great basketball legacy for sure.

CUSA powers that be are thinking outside the box on this one and that is quite refreshing.

I grew up in Norfolk and still have property there. Many in my family graduated from ODU. I suspect they hold more national collegiate championships than any new or existing CUSA school (they are THE field hockey power to reckon with!!). They participate in about 20 sports from wrestling to sailing. Their academics are no great shake and I would say this is the easiest public school to enter in all of Virginal other than the historically black schools.

But the people of Tidewater are starved for sports and have always supported ODU. Over time, their new football program will become a player in D1 as in a few short years, they have already made the FCS play-offs. Something we only did once in all of our years in 1AA.

Tidewater also has great scholastic football and the ACC recruits heavily from the region.
