I finally have to vent... During RV's recent pressers he expressed the accomplishments of Tennis and Golf, (well deserved),but he always seems to exclude our Sunbelt Champion soccer team and the long time accomplishments of UNT's most successful coach JH.

The latest article from the NT Daily was the latest snub that blew steam out my ears!

Link: UNT Daily Conference USA The latest article states, " In 2004, UNT’s combined record in the four major sports (football, men’s and women’s basketball, and softball) was 55-93. This past year, the combined record is 58-61-1.

The men’s basketball team has been in the Sun Belt Championship game each of the last three seasons, the women’s team completed a 10-game turnaround last season, and the football team won as many games last season (five) as it did the two years before combined.

Throw in the recent Sun Belt championships for the tennis and men’s golf teams, along with three straight years in the top-three finishes for swimming and diving, and you could argue that UNT is having the greatest athletic success in the university’s history."

Let us not forget that over the years when "every sport" was loosing Hedlund has put together 17 consecutive winning season!! It's a good bet the first UNT team vying for a C-USA championship will be women's soccer.

Winning a conference championship is no easy feet...how bout a little love?! GMG

Agree...and the love is here! We few, the proud understand.....Coach Hedlund and his ladies have made the Mean green nation proud for a great number of years...maybe it has simply become EXPECTED of this group.

Let's keep the cards and letters flowing folks...UNT has a powerhouse program....time for a ton more folks to step up and notice!

Great post Dude!

No doubt.

If you go back even 5 years, there are only 2 consistent winners at UNT: Soccer, and MBasketball.

Tennis and Golf are trending up for sure, but they have a long way to go to be mentioned in the same category.

Every school I've ever attended since 9th grade has had an insanely good soccer program, and UNT is no exception.

I can only speculate, but I think part of the problem with getting people to "pay attention" is that the season falls under the shadow of football.

Basketball has the luxury of starting later in the semester and watching the tension/excitement build through March when football long gone.

Not to knock it, but I have never before heard softball described as one of "the four major [college] sports." I would think football, men's basketball, and maybe women's basketball and then baseball.

Sorry to hear about the soccer ladies' omissions from mention. I am sure it was unintentional in both cases, and might just be a case of where winning women's soccer teams have become something that is taken for granted at UNT.

Valid point, but I'm directing this at the athletic administration on a number of occasions speaking publicly about our athletic accomplishments and the school newspaper missing a 2011/12 conference championship. 17 years of success and this year's championship should have "their" attention.

No doubt Soccer is NT's most successful and consistent program. However, football and basketball are always going to overshadow the other sports. With both tennis and mens golf championships occuring in the last week, they are going to be highlighted at this time. I don't think that is a snub it is just a question of timing.
