You fail to mention the fact you get 12 weeks off for summer, 2 weeks off for Christmas break and the entire spring break off. You keep mentioning quit my job and become a teacher. Why would I want to cut my salary in half? All I am saying is that if you count the number of hours a teacher works throughout the entire year, its not that much. You would have to work 52 hrs per week to equal a 40 hour work anywhere else. (Personally I don't know anybody that only works 40 hrs per week) Again, I don't care if its hard or not, don't care if its stressful or not. I am just saying for the entire year, teachers don't work a lot of hours. By the way, its 9:37 and I've been home for a couple of hours but I did get into the office at 6:45.

Note the highlighted part.... and no I don't get summers off... I taught the summer at a college...12 weekds... holy cow.. count... schools don't start in September anymore. i remember years we finished in early June and was back at work in middle August.. Learn to count..... PLUS Remember I only make half of what you do... haha ..So you put in twice the hours I do... if not you are extremely overpaid if I am earn only half... You are so clueless.. There are a lot of ways to make money... I also own ranch-land and quite a bit of oil stock... ..do you do either...hahaha .??

Bye

Love your profile picture .. it fits... a clown.... My picture... he was my grandfather... a Texas cattle rancher.. I honor him with his picture. Where have you been in the past 12 months for fun ... I have been to Greece, Italy, Alaska and Costa Rica... My older son is sailing the Caribbean now and my other son just got back from Kuala Lampour (job related) I am so poor and dumb and lazy. You are clueless.

Now I have to say you are a complete dumbass. I never said you were poor, or dumb, or lazy. No, I don't own ranch-land but I do own oil stock and quite a bit of other stock. Comparing my profile pic to me, another sign of a dumbass. Teaching summer at a college has absolutely nothing to do with teaching high school or the hours that an average teacher works, that was something you chose to do. Is that hard to comprehend? As far as places you have been. I served in the Air Force overseas, do you really want to compare places we have both visited and also the amount of time we spent there? I am sorry you took this as a personal attack but no matter what tangent you decide to take, teachers don't work a lot of hours.

--You are so uninformed... during the year they put in insane hours or most good ones do... and they don't get 12 weeks off in the summer as you claim... that demonstrates how little you understand things. No I didn't expect to earn as much as some .. but things did change as lot.. mathematics/engineering majors did not earn as much when I graduated compared to education... likely because the world was so tech oriented.

You claimed teacher are so dumb they casn't pass simple test.. go back and read what you wrote... that is what started all of this..Your insane arogance. My sons are engineers and one even has a law degree besides. Teachers are not fools are stupid as . that is whast this asll about.. Likely you just HATE your ex-wife and claim this.. you ae clueless or bvery bitter. i don't know. ASnd yes Many of us do find other jobs in the summer and travel a lot... In the school where my wife works there are multiple millionairs... some are spouses and somet don't want to work year around and like to enjoy life and not put time in every week of the year.. [ I know you doubt that, but it is true ] You just have no clue. You likely are a money hungry guy that will miss your kids growing up and have already gone through at lest one wife. . ---Don't trash educators .. We are not near as stupid and dumb as you indicate.. You and Plum have no respect for education or those of us who work there.. We are far from overpaid as well... Dude, you have major mental problems. I never stated teachers were so dumb they couldn't pass a simple test. That was NEVER even brought up in any of these discussions. But most disturbing is you going on about how clueless I am and yet you have misspelled about 15 words. I hope to hell you are just drunk and pissed off because your irrational rant is disturbing. I have primary custody of my boys so your statement about missing my boys is not only uniformed, but again makes me question your stability. Take a chill pill, use spell check, and relax from your overly stressful teaching job.

--- Plum did and you piled on saying we were way overpaid.

--I do probably understand why your marriage (or marriages) failed even if you don't.. you likely showed her (your teacher-wife) and her profession no respect and she had enough of you. I do believe in doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.. When you show no repect for others then you wish to be treated the same way. So I did.

---Yes I misspelled about 15 or more words.. just typed (very irritated with your oppinion of educators ) and never even spell checked or even re-read what I wrote.. it isn't about my spelling but about typing. I just didn't care and doubted you would know the difference anyway with your attitude toward education..

Now your reading comprehension scares me. I never stated teachers were overpaid, do you make this stuff up or what. Yes I am divorced but if you knew what me and your wife do, you would be too:) sorry, had to get that jab in due to your previous statement. Going to bed now, have an important meeting in the am. Good luck with your babysitting or whatever you do on a daily basis.

Yeah, my dad was a teacher for 30+ years. He was up at 5, worked 10 hour days at school, was generally working another 2-3 hours on paperwork each night, and worked probably half of every Sunday on lesson plans, grading, creating assignments, etc. There were also a lot of school-related events that were "optional". I think if you're a crappy teacher, then, yeah, it's a pretty cushy gig. You get summers and holidays off for the most part. But they don't make any money, and I think people that take the job of education lightly ought to be euthanized and parted out for their organs. It's a generally thankless job, and it's not one I'd want. It's pay is not commensurate with hours worked or the difficulties it presents.

Also, they don't get entire summers off. Usually a couple of weeks after the school year, they're still working. Then there will be a couple of inservices during the summer. Then they start working a few weeks before the school year, which starts in mid-August.

Any teacher who says it's easy was simply just a terrible teacher who didn't do their job. I also know crappy cops and crappy lawyers and crappy doctors who barely do the minimum for theirs as well. Doesn't mean that's the standard.

This installment of poetry-hour brought to you by dumb-ass*s who take the personal and attempt to make it general:

Richard Cory

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,

We people on the pavement looked at him:

He was a gentleman from sole to crown,

Clean-favoured and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,

And he was always human when he talked;

But still he fluttered pulses when he said,

"Good Morning!" and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich, yes, richer than a king,

And admirably schooled in every grace:

In fine -- we thought that he was everything

To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked and waited for the light,

And went without the meat and cursed the bread,

And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,

Went home and put a bullet in his head.

Why do liberals hate successful people so much? They always want someone else to pay and never think anything is fair unless someone else does the paying more? Let's see, liberals complain that low income folks don't have equal access to higher education...yet when same low income folks end up getting a college degree and making a really nice income...the same liberals complain that these previously low income folks who have "pulled themseleves up" and actually worked for a living should pay more taxes....why? Because they earn more than some liberals do...You never see this wage and income jealously from conservatives...it's always the liberals who play this class warfare card...that's when they aren't playing the race card...sometimes they play both at the same time. Just has never computed to me why some folks are so jealous of success.

I'll give you a legitimate and measured answer, KRAM, to what I believe is your general quandary, though I must say with all the derisive language choices you opted for it can be difficult to tell if you actually want a legitimate and measured answer or if you're just spouting off. Either way...

There is no hate of success. There is no jealousy of the rich. The reason I...and I have no idea if I speak for liberals on the whole or not...support the premise of levying higher taxes on the wealthy boils down to two simple philosophies.

1. There is no such thing in this world as a "self-made" individual. No one...absolutely no one in history has never become successful whilst isolated in a bubble. Every person has gotten to the position in which they occupy in life either through the help or on the backs of others...and as such they owe back to the community.

2. A great wealth/income disparity benefits no one. It creates an unhealthy economy. It prevents the lower end from spending which in turn forces the hand of the upper end to begin hoarding...loans from the top to the middle go away and small business, housing markets, et al suffer as a result. Ingenuity and innovation suffer because taking risk is...well, for a lack of a better word...too risky.

Does that look at all familiar?

You could simply dismiss my thoughts as communistic or socialistic...sure, I guess...I understand fully that I live in a community and that my choices and my successes and failures affect society.

My homeowners association board goes out to dinner once a month with the property management company rep and uses homeowners association dues to cover the cost.

I questioned the HOA president and property management company about it, and they told me they feel that using homeowners association fees for dinner saved the HOA money on printing costs in the long run because the restaurants have wifi.

I pointed out that people's homes in Frisco have wifi and that amount they spent at one dinner would buy 30-40 reams (15,000 to 20,000 sheets) of paper...per month. They said that a home couldn't handle a dozen or so people once a month; too much trouble. And, they didn't bother to respond to my printing/paper financial analysis.

I pointed out that families in the neighborhood often host two to three times that amount of people at their homes for bunco, pool parties, holiday get togethers, etc. They responded by saying their meetings were legal under Texas law and the by-laws.

I pointed out to them that I never said they weren't legal, just that they were using homeowners association dues to eat out, and that they seemed oddly defensive about it. They finally just said that for their time and effort, they didn't really think there was a problem.

Here's the thing - no matter how big or small the bureaucracy, eventually "spending other people's money" becomes engrained.

Is it a big deal that our HOA will waste $1,000-$2,000 on dinners just for the board and the management company? In the scheme of things no. But, the attitude and short shrift given to even the appearance of ethics is what is bothersome. First, the excuses, then the defensiveness. Then, finally, the "so what, mind your own business" gig.

With anything governmental (social security and whatnot) and quasi-governmental (HOA and the like) - govenment-minded people really just want what my HOA and property management company want: just for me to mind my own business and not ask any questions about what they do with my money. That makes them happy.

Please God...never let me turn into this guy.

Let's see..."derisive language choices"...Oh, you mean like "on the backs of others"....bit I digress. Have you ever read the book "The Millionaire Next Door"? I assume not as it describes quite a few hardworking folks who worked hard...many for someone else and never rose above what most would call a mid-management position, but they saved, invested, spent well within their means and paid taxes...got an education, not all past high school...and ended up in the 2% category that folks want to call "rich" because they in fact did "take care of business" and not on the "backs" of anyone else. Your choice of language gives you away. Seems the libs only think of the multi-millionaire corp. types when they bash the "wealthy" for not "paying their fair share", but the US is full of "self-made millionaires" who have and do give a very high percentage of their income "back" to society. Many of these people started their own businesses and have created employment for countless thousands of people....and, no, they did not "abuse" their employees...rather they provided a source of income and healthy benefit packages in many many cases.

So, keep that thought .... does that look at all familiar? Remember...these are the majority of the "rich folks" Obama and the libs love to bash so much as they are "rich" and should be paying much more in taxes.

I said either with the help or on the backs of others...while I don't believe most have, if you believe that no one has knowingly exploited others for their own benefit you're remarkably naive.

Again...the concept of the "self-made" anybody is fallacy. Everyone had the resource of others around them in some capacity or another. This goes to the multi-millionare corporate type, the hard-working small business person, the middle-management grinder...

Hell, I'm a multi-thousandaire who has worked for 5+ years for a business of six individuals and is starting a non-profit organization...I think that qualifies me as hard-working...I save fairly well...yet I recognize that despite how hard I work as an individual that none of my successes are "self-made" but are in fact tied back to my community, those who have helped me along the way and society as a whole.

I owe in part back to society...even for my very modest gains.

You expected me (us) to take insults without fighting back.. that is not what men do....maybe in your world and that is what you would do.

Quotes:

1. PLUM: "And some by teachers who can't even pass basic tests to continue to be teachers.

2. YOU: Just curious about something. Are teachers really underpaid? If you figure what they are making per hour based on getting off at 3:30-4:00 every day.

3. YOU: "You fail to mention the fact you get 12 weeks off for summer"

4. You: "Now I have to say you are a complete dumbass."

5. You "Dude, you have major mental problems."

_____________

All are ridiculous: I have more calculus/physics/math hours than you could even think about taking.. My sons are engineers, one owns patents, the other a lawyer as well.. and a lot of my education friends have math, biology, physics, chemistry, foreign language, and other degrees that I suspect you and Plum might have a lot of trouble passing. You claim to be a mortgage person... two of the many college math classes I teach has to do with amortizations, loans, investments, annuities, stats, etc. I TEACH your job and other jobs such as financial planners as to how it all really works. ...and no I have never worked on Christmas day, Christmas or the day after and neither has any of my sons or daughter... and I will enjoy June and July fishing, golfing, traveling etc. so who wins there?? ... not you. I will think about you going to work those days at 6:00 and getting home at 9:00..(as you claim) Plus I still eat and live well. I am not unusual among educators... Most of us have degrees of the same difficulty or more difficult college degrees than you and Plum likely have.

---I have not called you any names.... none... I been a bit insulting but then again who started that ?? Apparently that is the type of person you are accustomed and doing and hearing it. As for clueless.. I doubt you would have a prayer in any calculus class or beyond which I teach since you can't count to 12... You know when school stops and starts and even ignoring all the workdays in between there are not 12 weeks.

---Every person in education should feel very insulted by your and Plum's remarks...[at least he had the sense to not continue to argue) You sound very frustrated and envious. You have no idea how many former students have walked up to me or written me what I meant to them and how it changed them. Do you get those remarks from anyone.????

Read Dilbert: It is a cartoon where tech people make fun of some business majors who are clueless. [ I am directing this to only one person ]

Q.E.D. [ if you have any idea what that means.. ]

..

Pardon my typing.. again no spell check on this machine (at a school)

I don't. And also have no idea from where you drew that conclusion.

Eff it, though...I tried twice with measured responses and they drew responses that missed the point entirely. Back to all jackassery all the time.

OK, if that's what passes for measured responses...I'm fine with it...why you expect agreement is another story, Comrade. :thumbsu: Happy for ya.
