He posted it here because Odoh could have gotten out of his LOI. With these 2 signing , it looks like maybe that's not going to be the case.

Coleman is a very good player. JJ has been after him since he was in high school

Exactly! I don't understand why the other people didn't see that.

If anything, I do think it speaks highly of JJ that he can go in there and in a few days ink guys the previous regime had been working on (don't know for how long?).

Especially since one of them was white!

I don't think these two are going to take a (hypothetical) spot from Odoh, and I think LSU has a lot more than two scholarships to give. If losing Odoh is the worry then LSU signing two 6'6" forwards isn't the cure.

Hey, guys. I'm not here to flame or anything.

Just here to talk about Odoh.

Basically, our former coach Trent Johnson never maintained a full roster. When jones took the job, he had 5 scholarships to give. We also only have 1 true post player on the team. If Odoh wants in, we'd take him in a heartbeat.

Also, there's been little to no rumors about him from our side. Have y'all heard anything?

No rumors over here. As we understand it, Odoh is signed with North Texas and the only way he could come to LSU is if our AD would grant him a release. I think it's highly doubtful that would happen - Odoh's a good player and we need him. This is a big year for us, we could have the best roster on paper in our history. We're also in the throes of a coaching search which should be wrapped up pretty soon. My guess is that whomever we hire is already reaching out to all of the players (including Odoh) so they will feel comfortable with the change. Plus, Johnny is a stand up guy -- he's not going to try and take a player away from North Texas, especially one that has signed. He and our AD are best friends and so I just don't see much to the Odoh rumors at all.

Don't worry though, Johnny is an amazing recruiter (as is Shawn Forrest)and he will find a serviceable post for you guys!

Yeah, he's already done wonders so far.

I'm pretty sure that JUCOs don't need the university to grant him a release. I think that he is free to leave if his coach leaves.

I could be wrong though...

Not sure were all this Juco can get out of his NLI because of a coaching change comes from, I see no evidence of that being the case.

From the NCAA on the subject, this applies to all NLI's and there or no exceptions noted or special circumstances mentioned for Jucos

Coaching Changes and Contact at a NLI Signing

The National Letter of Intent is bound to the school and not a coaching staff. If a coach leaves the sports program for any reason, the athlete remains bound to the provisions of the NLI. It's good to keep in mind, no only when signing but during the entire recruiting process, that coaching changes do occur.

You are incorrect. John Odoh signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play at North Texas. North Texas - Like LSU - is a part of the NLI system which encompasses pretty much every D-I and D-II school. The NLI system makes it very clear in their paperwork that the player is signing with a school not a coach. Here a direct quote from their site which I think is in the contract that the player signs:

NLI on Coaching Changes

I understand I have signed this NLI with the institution and not for a particular sport or coach. If a coach leaves the institution or the sports program (e.g., not retained, resigns), I remain bound by the provisions of this NLI. I understand it is not uncommon for a coach to leave his or her coaching position.

Here's a link to the NLI site: http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/nli/nli

There is an appeals process but I would think it would have to be a major hardship for them to ever overturn their bylaws -- and even then it could open up the floodgates and a pandora's box of issues. Think about all the coaching changes that happen every year...if every juco player in D-I and D-II was given the ability to change schools it would be an absolute administrative cluster.

Juco's do not have to comply because they are not NLI member institutions, but Odoh signed an NLI with North Texas which is.

Basic penalty for not fulfilling the NLI agreement: A student-athlete has to serve one year in residence (full-time, two semesters or three quarters) at the next NLI member institution and lose one season of competition in all sports.

Thanks.

Seems like its under yalls discretion. Interested to see what happens. Like I said, we only have one legitimate post player, and he would be playing out of position at Center.

We need a big either way.

Exciting that y'all will have such a good team next year. Hopefully we both have/will make great hires.

I believe the issue with a JUCO player is that if they sign with a JUCO, and have not signed a LOI with an NCAA school, and never attend a class before they start they can accept an offer from a NCAA school. In this case a LOI has been signed. And not only no, but hell no I do not believe we should let him out to go to LSU
