R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl officials and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation announced today that the 2012 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl will be played on Saturday Dec. 22nd at 11:00am (CST), in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The 2012 game, broadcast on ESPN, will mark the first game in the Bowl’s 12 year history that will enjoy a daytime kickoff, kicking off a doubleheader of bowl games on ESPN for the day.” Executive Director of the Bowl, Billy Ferrante, worked with ESPN to secure the morning slot, “This is the first year that our Bowl Game will enjoy a daytime kickoff, and we couldn’t be happier. Local and visiting fans will be able to bookend their Bowl experience with Friday and Saturday night festivities in New Orleans during the holiday season, while still getting home in plenty of time for Christmas. A Saturday kickoff is a win-win for everyone. It’s a great timeline for fans, television ratings, the local hospitality industry, and the participating teams who will have the freedom to focus on their bowl experience, without conflicting with their academic and exam schedules.”

Can you imagine the condition of the fans at 11:00am in New Orleans? That is a hideous start time for the game. Further that is 9:00am on the west coast! So much for any left side of the country viewership. With the evening kickoff you had all time zones watching. I remember being in the Aria sportsbook watching that monumental finish last year. San Diego State fan went from a Hangover high to a sad low all in one minute.

I'm for whichever makes the team and the conference the best payday. If you make more playing in the daytime then I'm all for it. Nighttime is better for celebrating (or drowning your sorrows) anyway IMO.

Given my choice though, I would never pick an 11:00 am kickoff.

The four years I was there I think 50% of our fans would have been late to an early kickoff because of nasty hangovers! :beerhat:

There's something to be said for early games. Hit up some coffee and beignets at cafe du monde, stiffen your resolve with a morning cocktail or three, and go to the game. Thing lets out at 2 in the afternoon, wherein one has the option to rally or take a lazy afternoon siesta before hitting the debauchery that is NOLA.

Some people, seriously.

"Congratulations! You've won an all expenses trip, flying first class bedroom suite on Magestic Airlines with 5 nights in the penthouse suite of Le Redculouz Hotel and Resort, 24/7 personal butler, chef and bartender, night golf, a $50,000 prepaid Visa card, and a staff of the finest maids who clean everything (and I mean everything!)"

"Man! Why does this always happen to me? I haven't had time to break in my putter! Nobody ever thinks of my feelings!"

I like the night kickoffs. A morning game makes me feel like the N.O. Bowl is just a warm-up for fans tailgating at other bowl games that day.

Hopefully this won't be our problem much longer.

I don't think any of us will be complaining if and/or we do make it to an actual bowl game.

Don't underestimate us, man.

Believe. Achieve. Nothing is impossible if we as a fan base really dig deep into bitterness and let the hate flow as hard as we possibly can.

There's no mountain we can climb that's too high for us to poop down on during or after.

This...a hundred times this. I really think only in the Mean Green Nation will people start complaining about something that has no immediate effect on them, and for which they will be celebrating wildly should the "something" actually come to pass.

When the Mean Green play in the NO Bowl or "whatever" Bowl this year, I want to see who finds something to complain about at that time. As Tasty indicated...never underestimate the Mean Green Nation's ability to complain. It is the one thing we can all count on as a fact!

Too funny. The Mean Green playing in the NO Bowl with an 11:00AM, or 8:00AM or 6PM or 7PM kick-off is GREATNESS and a cause for celebration....it has been too long!
