Realignment taking a crazy turn?

Recommended Posts

Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News has tweeted that San Diego State is talking to the MWC about a possible return due to concerns over the Big East.

I can't believe that SDSU is waffling unless Boise State is also waffling. We know Petersen has said that the Big East isn't worth it if it puts the other sports in a bad situation. I have believed all along that the anticipated TV revenue for the new Big East would be under the leaked numbers they claimed to be expecting.

If Boise and SDSU were to bailout of the Big East, you have to believe the Big East would start looking back in their own neighborhood with an eye toward ECU, USM, and Tulsa. I tend to think that if the spots are football only that USM and ECU get the nod and if the spots are all-sports that Tulsa would get one with USM and ECU battling for the other because Tulsa would help keep the public/private ratio in place.

There in lies the reason that we cannot turn down any invite whether it comes from CUSA or MWC. I think when SDSU and Boise return to the MWC you are going to have a league that is much stronger than CUSA. I know geographically CUSA looks more appealing and the Texas ties would be great, but a very strong bball and solid fball league out west that wants some DFW presence has to be considered. Lets just get an invite, any invite, preferably before December 20, 2012.

T.C.U. paid the Big East $5 million exit fee and never played a game. it is my understanding that the league increased exit fee to $20 million when Navy joined. if so,BSU and SDSU are not going anywhere. also, UTEP has an exit fee issue as well.i don't know what the amount is, but CUSA can't let UTEP off the hook to move to MWC and expect to get paid by SMU,Houston,Memphis, and UCF.

CUSA and The MWC can/could come up with something creative under the "alliance" if it looks like it would be best for UTEP to head west. I still do not think UTEP wants to be west if there are teams in the Dallas and Houston areas (unless they get an agreement to play there in cross-over games.

do you know what the exit fee for CUSA is, exclusive of lost t.v. revenue? alot of what happens to CUSA and MWC depends on what UTEP does. if they stay in CUSA, then the conference will add UNT & FIU for sure, and probably La. Tech & UC/Charlotte to get back to 12, with MWC adding USU & SJSU to get back to 10. if UTEP moves West, then either USU or SJSU gets left behind, as i can't see the MWC taking Idaho or NMSU.this means CUSA needs to add a 5th wheel, probably MTSU.

LOL. SDSU is not going back to the MWC when the TV money from the Big East will absolutely destroy what they would be getting with the MWC.

I've had a few conversations with Steve Orsini and he has been involved in multiple meetings with the Big East and the iniital feedback is that the Big East schools can each expect to receive between 10-17M per year. And that is a very conservative estimate.

SDSU isn't going to turn that down to go back to a dying conference.

"SMU jerk"

Classy. I've posted on here maybe a handful of times and I've always been complimentary of UNT. My wife is a UNT alum.

Have a better life. No need to call me a jerk.

I welcome friendly SMU trash talk but just being mean to be mean isn't needed.

Chill bro - they're just bustin your sack a bit. It's pretty standard treatment for the few brave ponies who wander round these parts.

Some of our members from time to time forget to take their medication --- but please don't take it personally. Some of us do actually appreciate what SMU has accomplished and look forward to our football series starting up in a couple years. If you guys back out of that series I do reserve the right to change my opinion though - just sayin.

We need a gmg vs ponyfans.com flag football game !!!

Haha! I doubt they'd play themselves and would ask their butlers to play for them, so it would still be NT Alumni vs. NT Alumni playing.

most of the people going to SMU now are taking out student loans. Not sure why everybody thinks current students are loaded, they aren't. I work with several people that graduated from SMU and believe me, they aren't wealthy.

Hey Brother Kram, since the GMG BB and FB games are now over, and you are not doing nuthin' with your time, here is a new project for you!

Surely there is a vacant Safeway parking lot somewhere between Denton and HP.

ANYONE have a contact with the SMU folks that I might could work with on this? I think it's actaully a pretty good idea!

:thumbsu:

Such a flag football game(s) could for damn sure be played in 2 of the finest on campus college football stadiums in the USA. I'd be a volunteer referee, but hurry up before I get any older, even crank'ier, end up in a wheel chair or my cararacts get worse. The game would draw a good crowd and for the first 30 minutes of pre-game fans/alums from both schools could spend in one hellacious staring contest.:lol:

And On Re-alignment? We need to hurry up and get an invite if we 're going to get one is my honest-to-goodness opinion on that subject because......the NCAA presidents could all have a mass group brain fart and turn all this topsy-turvy and inside out once again.

SMU? Some of the finest people I've met since moving from the Houston area to Denton/DFW have been SMU alums. Hey! We've all had our moments of disenchantment with our respective schools, but put us all in a room together and I'd bet it would end up being a friendly environment because being from Texas we'd find we have more in common than not.

GMG!
