This has to be one of the biggest coaching hires in the history of north texas....when have we EVER pulled a head coach, from a power 6 conference, with a + .500 winning precentage and coming off a 20 win season in any sport? i sure as heck cant remember that.... totally awesome hire.

Absolutely, one of the biggest. Expect a huge signing on the Men's side, too. It's obvious that we are in the MWCUSA, at this point. That's the only way we'd grab a ACC guy...anyway...trend

By my count, FB and WBB only account for two data points. Give me a blockbuster MBB hire and I'll concede that we have a TREND! :thumbsu:

Not very trendy here, I still have clip-on ties and mix stripes with plaids :rolleyes: ; but I do like the trend and the pool we seem to be drawing from to hire major varsity sports head coaches of late in Denton. It will eventually pay off. Some call this shooting for the moon and I would bet it we only hit the barn it would still be higher than we've been most decades with project hires.

Now onward we go to find a new men's BB coach. Can UNT steal one from one of the Big Boys ...because we, ie, Rick V did for WBB.:goodjob:

      Loved everything about your post but I wanted to highlight this section. I believe a lot of the fans on this board want to stick their heads in the sand and minimize the absurd mismanagement of the football program the last 20 years. We have a ton of alumni locally that could be won over. But the decisions made are insulting to the intelligence of people who casually pay attention when the program makes a big move. I harp on Odus Mitchell because his tenure shows dramatically what can be done with hard work and competence. And it is totally incompetent for program with upwardly mobile aspirations to hire first time FBS level coaches. And what is worse when we do hire a FCS head coach they don't hire the best one available. Dodge, Littrell, and Morris were bad hires. They may have been fine when it comes to the X & O of their sides of the ball. We need marketer, Adminstrator and culture builder. They selected the coaches I mentioned like a good functional Air Raid Offense would fix everything. I attended at least 3 home game a year since the last couple of season at Fouts Field and the game atmosphere more dead now than ever in my opinion. You can just feel the disappointment in fans. There is no structural disadvantage here that prevents North Texas from being on par with programs like Louisville, Memphis, Tulane, UNLV, San Diego State, UCF, SMU or USF.

      DC comment is regarding Caponi, I love his new choice, but Defense suffered for 2 years. As for Hodge, think team is a once again middle of the road AAC, losses to McNeese and High Point highlight that and negate the Oregon St and Minnesota wins, should not expect to be a Top 3 team in conference, especially when expected to only be a 1-2 bid conference max

      Coach Akers has done a good job, but he should stay away from this type of blatant public self serving politics.
