Realignment outlook keeps getting better for 'Runners

The Mountain West Conference and Conference USA sent officials to visit UTSA last week, setting off a round of unfounded speculation that an invitation to join their new partnership was imminent.

Multiple high-ranking sources said the trip was just another step in the long, unprecedented process of bringing two leagues together in a capacity — alliance? merger? friendship with benefits? — that has yet to be determined.

“Everything is on the table,” one said anonymously, referring to both membership models and candidates. “We've still got a lot of work and due diligence to do.”

“I could tell you one something,” another official said, “and this afternoon it could be different.”

Indeed, each day brings another round of rumors via Twitter and various message boards around the Internet. There has even been some active stumping for candidates, such as East Carolina chancellor Steve Ballard saying in a recent address that UNC Charlotte of the Atlantic 10 will “hopefully” join the league.

But while sources insist any final decisions won't be made for at least another month, this much seems clear: After initially being considered a fringe candidate, UTSA's stock has soared recently as key decision makers have begun to thoroughly assess its assets.

So I'm thinking about most UNT fan's reaction to being in a conference with 1AA startups.

What must a team like Southern Miss or Tulsa think about being in a conference with a startup? They've been in the top 25 with national recognition recently.

They HAVE to be pretty upset right?

I understand, but what did the Big East teams think of UConn moving up?
