I'm guessing they are going with 20 teams or the full 24 teams

It's tough to decipher the conversation of tweets. It appears somehow the merger is still on yet they aren't going to dissolve the old conferences. This appears to be coming from someone associated with ECU.

Of course ECU still prefers Appy State and UNC-Charlotte to join their conference/pod. For a team that will do anything to get into the Big East, they don't seem to really care who they rub elbows with in terms of football.

Probably to help keep travel to a minimum, create more local rivalries, or in ECU's case, the best stab at that. There don't seem to be a lot of choices to help ECU and Marshall out even with the pod system.

If 20 teams, the best 5 team pod for UTEP would be Wyoming, CSU, AFA and UNM along with UTEP.

The western pod would have Hawaii, FSU, UNLV, Nevada and USU.

Central could be Tulsa, Rice, UNT, Tulane and USM.

That leaves the eastern pod of Marshall, ECU, UAB, FIU and maybe UNCC. I know the ECU folks don't seem to want UNCC but wouldn't they help achieve what your AD has been after?

I think Charlotte will get in eventually but they don't even yet have a football team and I haven't seen any evidence that Appy St is even being considered

Looks like this whole thing came from some "State of the University" speech by an ECU official. Sounds like ECU's leadership has some preferences that they would like things to go down for the new conference scheduling alliance Galactic Empire.

I'm still hoping that they'll come around to my thinking. I'm for the four pods. Now if they'll just leave UTEP in the east and finish with the following twenty teams then I'll be happy.

CUSA Pod #1

East Carolina

Marshall

UAB

Southern Miss

Tulane

CUSA Pod #2

Tulsa

UTEP

North Texas

Rice

Louisiana Tech

MWC Pod #3

Utah State

Wyoming

Colorado State

Air Force

New Mexico

MWC Pod #4

Hawaii

Fresno State

San Jose State

Nevada

UNLV

This is the absolute best we could hope for during all of this alliance formation. This would be so great. This is what I pray happens. This is what I am afraid of, though, for UNT.

UNT, Arkansas State, Georgia State, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Lafayette, Troy, South Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky, and anyone else that moves up from the WAC or FCS.
