Other potential candidates are Virginia Coach Tony Bennett, Marquette Coach Buzz Williams, Baylor Coach Scott Drew, Valparaiso Coach Bryce Drew and Morehead State coach Donnie Tyndall, a former LSU assistant.

Bennett has compiled a 122-74 record and three NCAA Tournament berths in three years each at Washington State and now Virginia. His wife, Laurel, is a Baton Rouge native.

Williams, who coached one season at UNO, just finished his fourth season at Marquette, where he has compiled a 96-44 mark with four NCAA Tournament appearances. Williams reportedly has a $1.8 million buyout.

Scott Drew is the son of Homer Drew, an assistant on Brown's first LSU staff. Scott Drew has rebuilt the Baylor program since arriving there in 2003 from Valparaiso, compiling a 154-124 record and three NCAA Tournament appearances. Drew recently guided the Bears to a second Elite Eight appearance, where the Bears lost to eventual national champion Kentucky.

Bryce Drew, who was born in Baton Rouge, just finished his first season as head coach at Valparaiso, which finished 22-12. Drew reportedly turned down an offer to take over at Mississippi State for Rick Stansbury, who resigned last month.

Tyndall, an assistant for four years at LSU under Coach John Brady, has compiled a 114-85 record at Morehead State, which includes two NCAA Tournament berths. In the 2011 tournament, his No. 13 seed team shocked No. 4 Louisville with an upset victory.

Mike Davis, the former head coach at Indiana and Alabama-Birmingham, has expressed interest in the opening.
