Four Colorado State University freshmen are recovering from injuries suffered in a fight with several of the school's football players. J.D. Haley and Danny Gocha say they were leaving a party in Fort Collins with two other people when the athletes drove by and yelled homophobic insults. When Gocha said the same insult back, the SUV stopped. "You could just tell they were looking for a fight,” Haley said. “They just started beating the back of Donny's head in. I covered Donny’s head with my body. We were all scared for his life." Gocha's eyes are swollen shut, his teeth are chipped and he has a shoeprint on his back. Players Nordly Capi, Colton Paulhus and Mike Orakpo -- younger brother of NFL linebacker Brian Orakpo -- were suspended Saturday by the team for unspecified reasons.

Last week at a crowded venue in Watauga, I saw a guy who - instead of sneaking his way through the mass at the bar - decided he would raise his elbows and plow through.

He worked his way from one end all the way to the other where he nearly knocked over my friend; his words were "Get the f*!k outta my way."

...whatever happened to "excuse me"?

It really teed off my friend, and the douche just stood there waiting for my buddy to finally throw a punch. A cop stepped in and just escorted my friend to the back.

I really don't know what bothered me more, that this guy was so blatantly looking to get into a fight or that the staff didn't have him thrown out right then and there. There were about 10 other guys that he plowed through on his way to my friend. All of them were giving him the stare from their part of the bar/stool.

I'm sure our resident cops on the board have countless similar stories. Just like Rick says there is a nightmare wreck somewhere every night in DFW, it seems like one can never fail to find a dbag at a bar.

I never understood the whole "drive around looking for somebody to beat down" thing. My uncle was driving down Jupiter Road in Garland once when teens driving ahead of him slowed their car down to a crawl in all three lanes. He got out at the next stoplight and they made the mistake of getting out to fight him. He's a former Lewisville Fighting Farmers football player who worked 20 years in a supermarket warehouse and isn't a guy to mess with.

Do any of the old timers remember when a similar incident happened at North Texas outside of Kerr Hall? I think it was during Fry's first year here. The beatings were dismissed with the comment, "Boys will be boys". A friend of mine was on the receiving end. He is now a "big deal" attorney in Austin and I suspect the absence of justice in this case motivated him to enter the bar.

I don't remember the incident, but I'd be willing to guess as to the football player who instigated the fight.

Who knew the definition of a Lewisville fighting farmer football player ex-supermarket worker was complete badass?

I remember the incident. It was at a club that was located behind the old Pizza Inn on Eagle, which is right across from Kerr. Seems like the player was a wide receiver. It was a big deal in town when it happened as it was pretty bad if I recall.

Anyone who played football against them. It was hard to see my Berkner Rams led to slaughter once a year.
