Texas regents authorize new hire

AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas regents on Monday authorized hiring a new women's basketball coach after a short search that has zeroed in on North Texas coach Karen Aston to lead the Longhorns.

The regents granted president William Powers or women's athletic director Chris Plonsky the power to execute a contract.

The motion to authorize the hire did not mention any names. The Associated Press first reported last week that Aston spent two days on campus last week interviewing with Powers and school officials. She was the only known candidate to visit Austin.

A person with direct knowledge of the pending hire said a formal announcement of the new coach will likely not be made before Tuesday.

Pointless. The whorns are supposedly her dream job, for whatever reason. I don't think she is staying no matter what we do.

Now, I do think we should be raising all sorts of hell IF tu didn't ask permission or give her permission to talk to other schools.
