Rider's Dylan McDorman left Austin last year with a sour taste in his mouth.

Even though he had qualified for the state track meet as junior, McDorman finished seventh at the Class 4A UIL meet.

McDorman, a North Texas signee in football, isn't taking it easy his senior year, working as hard as ever to improve his distance in the shot put.

The dividends were on display Friday at the Wichita Falls Invitational. McDorman set a personal best for the second straight week, winning gold with a throw of 55-6 1/2.

"It should be a special year for him," Rider coach Billy Mercer said. "He's really interested in throwing the shot. He and coach (TiAda) Radtke put a lot of time in it, and it's playing off."
