Still, there is room to grow, and no doubt there are possibilities in the Sun Belt and WAC that could bring something to a new league, especially for a Midwestern school like Tulsa.

"Obviously, we want like-minded schools," Parmley said. "I mean, we want teams that TU, and all of our members, feel comfortable with and that bring similar resources and standards."

It would make sense for the new league to add teams from the Midwest and Southwest regions. That would include schools like North Texas, UTSA, Louisiana Tech and others.

"There's a lot of work to be done," Parmley said. "But I don't think we're going to sit around and see what happens.

"At these meetings, there was general agreement that we need to move forward and do what we think is best for the long-term stability of our league."

That will almost assuredly mean that Tulsa will soon be a member of the largest league in collegiate athletics.
