Former UNT coach Chuck Peterson to Orange Lutheran

A website, footballscoop.com, posted a blurb that former Air Force and North Texas State assistant football coach Chuck Petersen has been offered the head coaching position at Orange Lutheran (scroll down to the Feb. 29 entries on that link).

I left a voice mail for Petersen today, and am awaiting a returned phone call.

Today is something of a target date for Orange Lutheran to announce who would succeed Jim Kunau, who was reassigned at the school following the 2011 football season, Kunau’s 19th running Lutheran football.

He was on Todd Dodge's staff so we had long been UNT when he came here. He was a really nice guy and a great coach, I think they just had him at the wrong position. The guy was OC at Air Force for years and even won a National Assistant Coach of the Year award for his work on offense but Todd Dodge decided to make him a secondary coach. Brilliant.

It's always good to have North Texas STATE on your resume. Good God, when will it end?

It will end when we go with UNT on the helmets. Sorry, Rick V and others...but, when people say North Texas, they are 2/3rds of the way to going ahead and saying North Texas State.

Don't give them the opportunity. Stick UNT everywhere. And, I mean everywhere, baby! Helmets, pants, jerseys, wristbands, towels, water bottles, onion cutters...everything!

I don't think that it will go away until the name North Texas is associated with winning. Most of our success was as North Texas State so I consider it as somewhat of a left-handed compliment. Just keep ignoring it and it will eventually go away.

UNT on the helmets is a whole 'nother topic.
