The great jj had an exceptional coached game today- what a finish to the season with a top rated recruiting class.

I have not seen better play calling this year- if one saw play calling- go greek say how great jj was this game- please I want to know!

It was a crummy night for just about everyone associated with the Men's basketball program and they were shooting for a share of the lead with 26 seconds to go. Does every loss have to be followed by a tirade against JJ?

I don't think you can single out coaching for this loss today. Like was stated by GreenP1, just about everyone was to blame. Hell, I also will take the blame for jinxing us, because I had a tough time finding the tower light image I always post when we win. I take it as a sign we were gonna lose that it took me far longer than normal to dig it up.

EVERYONE IS TO BLAME FOR THIS ONE.

Could JJ shoot from outside back I'm his day? When u can double a guy at the 3 point line without anyone else stepping up and knocking down shots its the 4 other players fault.

I'm kinda thinking it was partly my fault, but I just don't feel that powerful. Maybe it was the cold I had earlier in the week.

Plenty of people have pointed out that while JJ is not without flaw (aka human), he did not lose the game.

Not only do I find it strange to call out a poster who has not posted for the past month in this forum, but I also find it odd that it's a poster whose flaw is that he gets/got excited about the possibility that UNT has been or might be good at something. Oh, and he's put together a nice little recruiting board to keep up with the guys that we're interested in and have interest in the U of NT.

I know some folks here won't be happy until we're winning national championships... but while there are likely no fans (or players, for that matter) happy with how the 2nd half of the season is going, some fans try to find happiness in less ambitious, and more realistic accomplishments. I don't think they should be chided for it.

Seemed like everyone on our side had a hangover or something today. At least compared to usual. Other than some of the Pit Crew, just a general lack of enthusiasm from the rafters on down to the floor.

All I can think of is the weather, because the second half just seemed like many of the fandom had kind of given up even though it was a very close and winnable game. Oh well, on to the very crucial last two games in the hills and mountains of the SBC.

It's my fault. For some reasom I thought the game was ar 7pm. Didn't realize it was a 3:30 tip until 3:00pm, far too late to make the drive to Denton.

I even saw the players look to my empty seat after every missed free throw.

Don't do your self harm, mean green basketball is all important but maybe a little less than that.

I do disagree with your premise however, other than the weather every thing you mentioned is strongly influenced by coaching. The coach recruits the players, trains the players, and establishes the game plan on both ends and the middle of the court. Based on your analysis everything that happens bad on the court is player related, I guess coaches fulfill some other function other than getting players prepared and directing the game. Other than injuries, I think basketball coaches are strongly in control of the factors that decides who win or loses a game.

Free throw shooting, turnovers, and fouls committed tend to ebb and flow and although I do think they are greatly a function of coaching in the long run, in individual games not so much. To also disassociate coaching from the fact that NT has no depth because they have 3 very key players academically ineligible, is strange. JJ signed all three, and I think it was a good decision that may yet pay big dividends; but it was a coaching decision that substantially effected this season. Yes, I am the first to say that is old news but it seems pertinent in this context.

However, anyone that doesn't think Bob Marlin out coached JJ in this particular game IMO were not watching closely. He almost completely neutralized Mitchell and his team played a very strong defensive game. Sure, NT's woeful free throw shooting played a major role in his success, but it did work. It is easy to contemplate that if NT could have hit their average percentage at the line, they would have won; but that is really an unknown.

Every coach above the pee wee level gets criticized when they lose and tend to get ignored when they win. JJ is no different and to suggest like some have, that anything critical belongs on another message board is incredibly short sighted and in my view almost cowardly. Express and logically support your views, sports message boards are not places of universal harmony but places to exchange opinions and information.
