“One of the areas we will address is the rebranding of the Sun Belt and creating a new-look Sun Belt that takes advantage of the 10-year success that they’ve had and position it for the next 10 years.”

With that being said, other conferences could choose to raid the Sun Belt of some member institutions. The new CUSA-MWC merger doesn’t have any teams in Florida or in the Dallas metro area, making schools like Florida Atlantic, Florida International and North Texas worth mentioning in expansion talks.

Benson said it was his job to make sure that the current schools can realize the benefits of staying in the Sun Belt conference.

Nice Find... +1

The Mountain West and CUSA Alliance merger should keep in mind that Benson will be like a shark looking for weak points or defectors in their strategy. They have a lot of differing geography and make-up to manage...saying you are aligning is one thing, actually forming the conference and getting consensus on expansion candidates could be tricky.
