Right there with you. Texas was blackmailed by the federal government into passing this law.

As they did when they lowered the BAC from .10 to .08 (with more to come), and when they outlawed all open containers. Not that I'm saying these are bad laws, but when the feds can force their will on everyone with the threat of diminished highway funds, it does seem to trample on a little thing called states rights. Is this thread still on topic? dry.gif

Cause then Emmitt could snort Coke off-duty, right? How cool would it be to give cops the green light to do as much dope as they wanted?

But not just Cops, doctors, also. I mean, I would have loved for my doctor to have been tweaking when he cut on my knee.

Ya, ya, I know. "how do you know they aren't doing it now?" Well, if they do they face never practicing their job again AND arrest.

Or we could just continue on the path toward less than mediocracy

Well...2 things I've learned here...you've never been to Amsterdam and the extenu of your drug knowledge comes from Dirty Harry movies and that fried egg commercial from 1987

Most studies actually show that alcohol has a far more pronounced performance deficits and mood effects than marijuana does.

Yes, but just like about everything pleasurable other than making babies (or not) with your faithful woman, moderation is the key.

Sure. I mean, once you start in with high-proof liquors, it doesn't take much to get you bit...whereas you'd have to smoke a whole bunch of weed to get to the same levels. I'm aware of alcohol's affects on people, sadly.

I'm saying though, I can have a Shiner (12oz bottle) or a full glass of wine and not feel much, if anything at all. If I drank 12oz of tequila, it would be much different. I'd probably be passed out or worse.

I don't know what the equivalent of a bottle of beer or a full glass of wine is when we're talking about marijuana though. Is it a full joint? Half a joint? One puff?

I've never heard of anyone smoking because they like the taste or the nose. I've only heard of one reason, and that's to get high. I'm probably naive though.

Lots of people drink to get drunk. To me, this scenario would be where your comparisons gain merit. Otherwise, they're still very different to me.

I have no problem with legalizing marijuana but to say it doesn't affect you is complete BS. It is just like everything else in that it does create some kind of reaction when you take it. There is a lot of gray area here and even double standards. But the law is the law...if you break it...then you deserve to be caught because that is the law. And folks talk about speeding and I've had a lot of acquaintances that are police officers and they say that the speed LIMIT is 40...if you're going 41 or 42 they have every legal right to give you ticket because technically you are the breaking the law. The speed limit is the LIMIT....it's not the minimum like most people think. I don't always agree with it but we're not that naive and dumb not to know when and if we're following it or not.

The pretending that marijuana use doesn't effect motor coordination and reaction time are laughable. Legalizing marijuana would put more dangerous drivers on the street.

Of course, the problem with reality is that many either:

(1) have never known anyone to be killed or seriously injured by an impaired driver, or

(2) they did know someone killed or seriously injured by an impaired driver, but don't care/think it would never happen to them

If you ignore the importance of public safety, you support marijuana legalization. If you accept that it is against public safety to do so, you oppose it.

Or, more Importantly, how often marihuana is found right along side meth, coke, ecstasy, and heroin in drug busts.

Let me answer. Over 70 percent of the time.

I guess we could just turn this country into a bigger version of Amsterdam.

I wonder how often alcohol, cigarettes, paper towels, dvd players, TVs, cell phones, wallets, a coffee table, couches, lamps and beds are found right along side meth, coke ecstacy and heroin in drug busts.

Let me answer. Over 95 percent of the time.

I guess that makes a good argument to make all those things illegal.

No one's pretending it doesn't. But alcohol's effects are scientifically more pronounced. And it's legal. How would legalizing marijuana put more dangerous drivers on the road than legalizing alcohol did? You understand it's illegal to drink and drive, right? So I can only assume that, by this argument, you want to bring back prohibition, since it would take dangerous drivers off the road?

Once again, I can only assume you want to bring back Prohibition. If not, you obviously ignore the importance of public safety and probably like it when some drunk dude in an SUV runs over a baby.

It's too hard to explain on he internets. We just need to get you a dime, an apple, an empty milk jug, and some zags. We'll take you through the entire progression.

I didn't know all those things were also illegal drugs. If you can't (or don't want to) see the relationship, it really isn't even worth discussing.

This thread really should be moved to the pie forum.

"its easy to talk about, its easy to sum it up when you just talk about weed.  we sittin' in here, i'm supposed to be the franchise poster, and we in here talkin' about weed.  i mean listen, we talkin bout weed.  not a drug, not a drug, not a drug.  we talkin bout weed.  not a drug, not a, not a, not a drug that I could go out there and die from, and smoke every bowl like its my last.  not the drugs.  we talkin' bout weed, man.  i mean how silly is that?

It's real simple to me - enough people harm other people under the influence of alcohol. Why in the hell, then, would you throw legalized marijuana on top of that?

So you're in favor of making alcohol illegal too?

Sporting events put a lot of drunks back on the road after games. Should they stop selling beer at Cowboys games?

I think I'll pass.

I've never been high either. The difference is (from my understanding), there's no other reason to smoke marijuana other than to get high.

There are plenty of other reasons people smoke marijuana. It's even being prescribed as a medicine. Chemotherapy patients do it to reduce nausea, for one thing.

Of course it affects you. THAT IS THE POINT.

I can't believe there are so many UNT graduates who need remedial tips on pot. I thought this was a hippie school.

I don't get why you care so much about the prosecution of weed. It's not your time or effort that goes into the investigation or arrest.

Oh, and they were SELLING. Even IF it was legal to smoke it. It wouldn't be legal to SELL it.

I read your stuff and think about Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmens' signature hit, "Down to seeds and stems again blues". Seems like part of that was set in Bowling Green, so that could be it. Here's the link:

No, it's just my taxes.

Classic worthless argument. Taxes pay for police and fire departments to do their jobs. You'd be suprised out how much they do with so little. I can assure you "your" taxes aren't being wasted on going after pot smokers.

The U.S. prison population has quadrupled since 1980 because of mandatory sentencing laws, many of which came about because of the war on drugs.

There are around 33,000 state inmates and 10,000 federal inmates in the U.S. imprisoned for marijuana-related offenses. It costs taxpayers $1 billion a year to jail them.

Add the costs required to catch, prosecute and convict them, and the cost of probation officers, and you're looking at many billions more.

You have your opinions and that is fine. What amazes me is you have people, that deal with this everyday and know alot more about you on the subject, and you refuse to see their points.

This board really is maddening.
