For those wondering, the events of this week involving the merger of Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference have not gone unnoticed at North Texas.

The athletic director of Tulane was in the DFW area last week touring four stadiums: TCU, American Airlines Center, the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and Apogee Stadium. Also in the group was a representative from Conference USA.

Safe to say now they are interested, just have to sweat it out and hopefully before Karl Benson takes advantage of us.

While this is encouraging news, I can't say I'm as excited about joining the MWC, CUSA or MWUSAC as I once was...not even close.

Why? Is it because SMU and UH left? Increased travel from the SBC? I just think that we would never have had a chance to be in that Alliance if SMU was still there and I am going to bet that this new conference will be travel-friendly to each of its members.

I partly agree, but the upside of CUSA/MWC membership is going to Houston, Rice U and Rice Stadium every other year (our Gulf Coast recruiting will be dramatically enhanced); think of going to Tulane U and New Orleans every other year (while continuing to think state of Louisiana recruiting which we've been known to do more often than not); think of re-newing a conference rivalry with Tulsa U (while we try to figure out a way of beating those 'Canes); but also think of having many (not all) CUSA/MWC schools opponent's fans showing up at Apogee Stadium on Game Day because a large number of them live and work in the North Texas Metroplex and can probably get to Apogee Stadium in less than 30-60 minutes.

The upside of joining this consortium of schools is beyond remarkable .

Who said we were? Just because I visit Six Flags it doesn't mean they called me and invited me. The interest may have been wholly organic on their part.

I remember hearing the great news back in 2003 that Krum Middle School visited Fouts. So many reasons to see that wonderful place.

That anyone wanted to see my Fall second home, whatever their motive, is good news in itself.

While I partially agree with that, the fact that Bensen is now here makes CUSA look like a dream.

I have to agree. Being in a conference with Rice, Tulane and Tulsa is good to me. Gives us exposure and publicity in key recruiting areas and good road trips as well.

Ok, let me clarify my previous statement. I'm not opposed to joining a MWC/CUSA merger, I'm just not as thrilled about the idea as I once was. The many defections suffered by both the MWC and CUSA have resulted in a much weaker group of programs. It's, arguably, still a better place than the current SBC.

I don't think the problem is that the bill is wrinkled. It's just that we're still trying to figure out if this is indeed a $100 bill or another used piece of toilet paper headed our way.

I was just about to say something similar. Wrinkled $100...nah, it's more like a wrinkled $20.

I get your point.

I don't believe the money difference is going to be significant. CUSA with UH and SMU along with Tulsa and Rice was far more attractive.

The overall merged league isn't spell-binding, and is actually a bit puzzling considering that the remaining MWC schools rated below the Sun Belt (and remaining WAC not counting TxSt and UTSA) in the BCS standings this year.

I've got the same feeling if ASU pops out as a dark horse. Nice to be with Tulsa and USM but losing Memphis really took the shine off.

Where was this intel discovered about these folks visiting the stadium?

I'd tend to think since we did not go to that conference before because our facilities were garbage and now we have great facilities that this is a good sign.

      Should we add Texas State to the AAC?

      After the bowl, I’m of the opinion that we should have Texas State on the schedule for an annual home and home series, even if we aren’t in a conference with them. It was a great atmosphere. School is close. Large public Texas institution. Fans are fun and also like to party. What is not to like?

      A troll? I have been a fan, including student and alumni, since 1965. Think you've got me mistaken with someone else. 1. Do that every year. 2. Shirt giveaway for last night's retro night. They called it "Retro Night" and did nothing retro other than give out t's to the first 500 fans. How did they market that? Email to alumni and ticket holders three or four days prior. 3. Do people really look at the schedule and decide that frisbee dogs will make them attend? 4. Denton student day. I am assuming you are referencing the 11am tip-off women's game that, by nature of the tip time, limits attendance to those students. Sorry, I see a lack of creativity and effort because they were doing these same things in the mid 70's when I attended as a kid. I am well aware that we don't choose the announcers. Not by point. Do I think they provided them with incorrect information? Nope, that topic was probably never addressed in the production meeting, but someone from the department should be monitoring the broadcast to correct stupid comments like the one mentioned last night and referenced above. He was complimentary of UNT during the broadcast, but he pulled that "fact" out of his ass and someone should be there to correct them.

      Adding Texas State feels like such an easy call to me. It would be good for attendance and give our fans another easy road game.

      The prestige of the PAC is dead, and @NorthTexasWeLove is right: we are entering an era (if we aren't there already lol) where geography is a much bigger priority for non-Power leagues. I hope we do away with this notion that we should share a G conference with California or Washington schools. It's already a whip that we are in one with schools that sit just off the eastern coast. I don't get the idea of if-Tigers-go-we-need-to-follow. I think it makes more sense to be attached to Texas State than Memphis.

      First of all, I know you're a troll and have been for many years. Over the past 10 years, you probably don't have 5 positive posts on this board. However, to answer your question (1) discount and multi game ticket packages offered, (2) shirt give aways, (3) various forms of half-time performances, (4) Denton student day. You wanted 1 there's 4! If you would like to provide the AD with an unlimited marketing budget to do what you would like then go ahead! As for the announcers, NT doesn't control who ESPN sends. If they mistake on air that's on them. Do you really believe our SID gave them incorrect information? I listened to Hank's interview with the announcer in the pre-game show. He was very knowledgeable and complimentary of NT. If he made a mistake, it was just that...a mistake. It wasn't because he didn't know anything about NT or we intentionally gave him incorrect information.
