If Louisiana Tech officials are ever going to receive their coveted Conference USA invite, now would seem to be the time.

The league continues to be battered and bruised from defections in much the same way the WAC has been over the past couple of years. Gone from the WAC are shining stars Boise and Fresno States, Hawaii and Nevada.

Tech is now the WAC's shining star, so maybe it was appropriate that the Bulldogs won the 2011 football title as the latter three were exiting the premises.

The latest C-USA loss is Memphis, a six-hour or so ride from Ruston and one of those schools that Tech fans would have preferred to see remain — good barbecue, tasteful music, Beale Street and all that. C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky should have been on the phone with Tech athletic director Bruce Van De Velde this morning securing the Bulldogs as Tigers replacements. Losing Houston, SMU and UCF apparently wasn't a big enough warning sign

Yes,in deed, stranger things have happened, but that would be right at the top of the stranger things have happened list in my 45 plus years of following NCAA sports.

Rarely mentioned by the Louisiana media are the Bulldogs still anemic athletic budget which would be toward the bottom of even the Sun Belt Conference. I guess they think that will be over-looked? I don't think so as I believe a school's athletic budget to be one of the Alliance's main criteria of their having any interest toward an expansion school. Just sayin'...

      The young qb played better than expected for sure but did account for three TOs as well. Probably shouldn’t have been put in the position for the game to completely rely on his performance but that is what Morris did. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      MGN: Post game recap

      Really they didn’t even try. The stats back this up. Our RBs had 12 carries for 53 yards. That’s a respectable 4.4 yards per carry. Not amazing but solid enough to take a little pressure off the passing game. By comparison, TxSt averaged 4.6 but they ended up with over 200 yards because they stuck with the run. The running game didn’t struggle. Morris gave up on it before it could struggle because he doesn’t value the run game. Or he was so intimidated by a SunBelt team that he panicked?

      We picked the wrong quarterback

      The problem wasn’t the QB but rather the game plan. Or more specifically the head coach. I still don’t understand why you build your game plan around a rookie walk-on qb. They barely even tried to run the ball. The stat sheet shows 25 rushing attempts but around 6-7 of those were passing plays when the qb scrambled due to the breakdown of the pass blocking or that abortion of a WR pass with Young. Our RBs had 12 carries. Twelve. Stupid.

      MGN: Post game recap

      Run game definitely struggled. Observation from a lowly fan was the center's snaps were not crisp. There was the bad snap that hit the turf that Mestemaker recovered but there were several others that weren't on target that visibly caused timing to be off. Couple that with the DL regularly being in our backfield right after the snap and it's hard to run. I may be mixing games but I think even remember a TX State player practically meeting our RB at a hand-off. Mestemaker pulled it back and got taken down by a few defenders but there was just no room to get things going on the ground.
