Former Ryan quarterback Scotty Young is considering finishing his college career at North Texas, his father said Monday afternoon.

The 2009 Gatorade and Associated Press Player of the Year in Texas spent two seasons at Texas Tech. Young decided to transfer after last season when he was buried on the depth chart behind starter Seth Doege and backup Jacob Karam, who transferred to Memphis following the season.

“It’s something he is considering,” Jeff Young said of transferring to UNT. “I think it would be an attractive option for him. I would like for him to think about it.”

Yes. 1000 times yes.

You want as many good players as you can get. Competition only makes everyone better. DT has also shown to be a bit injury prone, so having another good QB on the roster only helps.

What also gives me hope is that Young was buried on Tuberville's roster. If there is one Big 12 head coach I don't trust to evaluate talent, it's Tommy T.

Could Young stil register late for this semester?

Really??? Are you sure??? If Young can come in and knock off a senior in his third year of an offense, then he deserves the starting position. I'm not saying we hand it to him, but since when do we turn our nose up at 4* players....correction, 4* quarterbacks? It's a no brainer.

The answer is DUH!

We have DT who would be a Senior in 2013 before S.Y. would be eligible.

S. Young would have to sit out the 2012 season but would have 2 years left as a Junior (RS).

Young used his red shirt his freshman year at Tech so that would not be available for him here.

We never had a 2nd string QB this year, we all know that.

Cooper Jones will get his shot and we will see if the others woke up the morning of the spring game and learned how to play QB.

D.T. is a good QB yes but why not have a Scotty Young who could finally get Denton off their arses at home and into Appogee?!?

This works out perfect, it gives Scotty a chance to:

-learn Chico's offense for his year he has to sit out and adjust to the new campus

-play at home in front of his family and friends

-FINALLY get some support we desperately need from the near 100,000 of the Denton community.

-Get some interest from the Denton HS players. Showing that it is a great opportunity to stay in town at a magnificent University in your own backyard and the opportunity to play in one of the best stadiums in the country.

This would make us feel very comfortable knowing in 2013 we have a DT as a senior and a Scotty Young going head to head for the starting position.

Scotty is starting at Tech this past season if Leach is still around. Tuberville has done a lot to change that programs philosophy and he began by not playing/recognizing any true talent. The proof is all in their record and the amount of playing time Adam James received.

Even Leach said the team Tech had the year after he was fired would have been better than Harrell/Crabtree and I don't believe that was frustration or propoganda talk.

The headline should have read "Scotty Young's Father Considering UNT."

I hope Scotty listens to his very wise father.

Nope. He clearly said Scotty was considering North Texas.

Just commenting that the entire article was quotes from Dad, nothing more.

I'll feel a lot better when he is seen on UNT campus.

Scotty is an incredibly talented kid and it looks like he wants to have an opportunity to showcase that ability.

Welcome home kid, we're proud of you, and excited to have you coming back.

For what it's worth, I heard these rumors 6 months ago. I was hoping this news to be a little more firm by now...

I'd heard these rumblings too. I'd feel a little better about this possibility if we had a baseball team.

Well, from the video clip that Harry posted, it's obvious that he has a great arm. But I thought that Coach Mac likes his QB's to be mobile as well. In the MGB it mentions that he is a "pro-style" QB. That usually means not very mobile.

He looks like a great Todd Dodge QB. But is he a Coach Mac/Coach Canales-type QB?

I don't see a ton of schools ahead of us in this race. Larger schools are going to have a stiffer competition at that position and would want more than 2 years of eligibility unless he's a real stud (not saying he isn't, but jury is out if he was burried on the depth chart). I would think being front Denton also gives us a leg up, I hope we can get him.
