Brett Vito's Thoughts on Clint Bowen and John Skladany

Skladany has been successful throughout his career, even last year before being fired at Central Florida. UCF had one of the top defenses in Conference USA and ranked among the national leaders in several statistical categories. It makes about zero sense that he was let go, but UNT benefitted in the end.

To a certain extent, UNT is getting the band back together from McCarney's days at Iowa State, and that's not a bad thing at all.

These guys were successful together before. There's no reason to think they won't be again.

In an interesting side note, Skladany is supposed to be a terrific recruiter. At least that's what I have heard from some of the coaches who used to be at UNT back when the Mean Green was at the top of the Sun Belt.

One note I would add to this on Skladany - he as defensive coordinator may not be out on the road recruiting as much as say a Justin Gaines would but he can close, he knows talent and has a lot of good relationships across the country. I hate to lose Bowen cause he's a rising star but I knew that Bowen would not be here long - he's head coaching material in my mind and could potentially replace Weiss someday if things work out. I think - if successful - Skladany could be here a long time and coaching stability is a good thing for us.

Yes, and Bowen could possibly even return here and become our next head coach one day. Just hopefully not anytime real soon.
