Athletics Comments on 2012 Schedule

Recommended Posts

The Mean Green will host Louisiana Lafayette, South Alabama, Troy, and Arkansas State, and will play Middle Tennessee, Louisiana Monroe, Western Kentucky, and Florida Atlantic on the road. Dates have not been set, and the North Texas non-conference schedule has not been finalized

I think this is what a lot of us were looking for...a comment of some sort. Not mentioning what appears to be a (at least for now) set OOC schedule means that NT is still actively trying to change it. At least that is how I interpret it.

There are a couple of other good tidbits in there including upgrading the Super Pit video boards.

You need to click the link and read the whole thing as there are a number of good updates but I like this particular one a LOT:

North Texas is working on upgrading the scoreboards in the Super Pit to something similar to the video boards at Apogee Stadium.

I have to wonder what the AD will do to get new video/scoreboards installed. I don't mind the scoreboards where they are right now but I don't see where there is space to put in larger video boards in the current location. Now, if they kept the Hustle Stats boards and put larger video boards where the 3 Pt boards are I'd be very happy.

Great to hear some cosmetic changes are coming to the Super Pit.

I put the link and mentioned the upgrades in my original post...not trying to decrease ad revenue for MGD or anything.

we need to book home & home series regardless.

Everyone would agree on paying more to have at LEAST 6 homes, if not more every year.

Sign up schools that will get the biggest attendance for Appogee.(Say NO to FCS)

I would suggest seeing some of the lower tier schools from the big conferences like we did this year with Indiana. (Vandy,Ole Miss, Washington State, Arizona State,Maryland,Duke,Kansas,Texas Tech)

Attendance will come with more wins, just because a team travels well doesnt mean its a good schedule... Its all about wins, you need 6 to get in but more the better... With the Belt getting better as we speak, the conference games wont be as easy as they use too.

I would rather take a W with 20k in the stands than a L with it sold out. If you dont make it in a bowl game youre moving backwards not forward. Once we start making it into bowl games then we can start talking about scheduling with AQ programs.. We should stick with the Mac, Wac and one FCS team for OOC games

Agree. We shouldn't rely on other teams to fill up Apogee. If we can't do it ourselves then maybe we didn't need a new stadium.

Say NO to FCS

Here's my take on the FCS thing. Every year I've been here, the first game of the season has always been really well attended. Curious new students, alumni happy for football season to start, eternal hope. Then every year we get it handed to us at the first game and the curious go back into hibernation. Beating up on Texas Southern certainly doesn't help out with whatever the football equivalent of RPI is, but it showcases a victory for the people who are coming out to see the team for the first time.

Also, after the team gets used as a turf mop by LSU, it wouldn't hurt to have a less physically taxing game to recover. I've always wondered what long-term physical effects it has on the team to get utterly manhandled by the big boys. I imagine a good number of them are still pretty beat up by the time they get to conference play.

As much as I agree and would love to have a series with these teams, it takes 2 to Tango. Im looking at it from those other schools point of view, it really does not behoove them to play us, they win then they are suppose to, if they lose it is a bad loss and the fans turn on them. It is a no win situation for them.

Similar to us playing a school like Sam Houston St etc....

Until we get into that realm of college football, I dont see the bottom feeders of big time BCS conferences playing us.

I think we are destined to play the LSU, Alabama, TU, OU schools of the world until we move up and move out.

True, but their fans will still come to the games regardless of who they play.
