Player who deserves improper benefits: It's easy to forget that one of the nation's best talents is playing at North Texas because Tony Mitchell is still adjusting to college. And because he's at North Texas. But the 6-foot-8 freshman was terrific in a 78-73 overtime win over South Alabama. He went 11-of-14 from the field to finish with 34 points and 16 rebounds.

Lots of Sun Belt love publicity...

Players Referees who do not deserve improper benefits: Louisiana-Lafayette beat Western Kentucky 72-70 in overtime. Who cares, you ask? I care. Because the referees somehow let Louisiana-Lafayette play the final possession with six -- SIX! -- players on the court. (Here's the video.) Yes, the Rajun Cajuns scored the game-winning basket with six players on the court. It should've been a technical foul. But the officials blew it. So WKU lost.

Numbers don’t lie

5: That's the number of players you are allowed to have on the court at the same time in a basketball game.

6: That's the number of players Louisiana-Lafayette had on the court at the end of its win over Western Kentucky.

3: That's the number of officials who should be suspended by Sun Belt office on Friday morning.

Let's blast him with comments. :growl:

How dare he downplay our national profile in a national column by praising us. WHAT A DOUCHE!

"And because he's at North Texas"

great...

I don't see any reason to get upset by that comment. From a national perspective, North Texas is off the radar. We are never on TV. We are in a conference that doesn't get a lot of pub. It's not a slam on UNT, he's just saying we don't get a lot of coverage (like the great majority of college basketball teams).

You don't understand the words Napoleon Complex do you?

Koldbeer said about getting noticed "like a great majority of basketball teams" when he was talking about publicity in basketball. My question is why UNT doesn't get the more pub in basketball?

We're not a top 25 program? There are 340 D1 programs give or take, how many do you keep up with? I am a college basketball nut, and I don't even know all there is to know about teams in say the CAA --- and they're one of the best leagues outside the Power 6. Just look at their recent Final Four participants.

I may check scores from the Big West, but I couldn't tell you the star player on the 4th place team is. This isn't like the NBA where someone could reasonably follow the whole league. There are ten times the number of teams.

We're not located in the national media centered Northeast/Midwest, we've never won a tourney game, and we're in the SBC. Hope one or two of those things soon change.

It is physically impossible. There are 4 D-1 teams in Washington DC, for example.
