Darius Carey named FCS All American

McNeese State’s Darius Carey, who ranked No. 2 in the nation in punt returns, has been named to the College Sports Madness 2011 FCS All-America football team.

A junior from New Orleans, Carey was named to the second team as a punt returner.

He was also a first team all-conference selection by College Sports Madness.

During the past season Carey, a transfer from North Texas, was the team’s leading pass receiver, the No. 2 rusher on the team and the leader in punt returns and all-purpose running.

He led the team and the conference in punt return average with a 16.9 mark that also ranked second in the nation. He returned 14 punts for 237 yards and had a 68 yard touchdown return (against Sioux Falls).

As a pass receiver, Carey led the team with 42 catches for 487 yards and two tds and as a running back – out of the team’s “Wildcat” formation – he ran for 330 yards on 52 carries and a team high 6.3 average. His total was second on the team.
