I hope it's communicated to him that he is using a roster/scholarship spot and that he is to make his grades this year or he is shown the door. I REALLY want to see him join the team next year as I think we'll be down right scary come March of next year with Patton, Tony and Franklin down low.

That's my fear. If he does not take care of his books over the spring and summer semesters we have essentially wasted a scholly on him. I like the kid, he can most definately play but we need him to be eligible to make this work.

And the 6'10" JUCO center, Odoh.

Screw Jeff Patton! The guy helped screw Grambling and bailed! We need that scholarship next year for another true center or a 2 guard that can actually shoot. His game does not help us as much. JJ will look like a damn fool when he is not eligible next year. He is not a Tony Mitchell to take a chance on. Surely we can find a student athlete.

Ugh, I wasn't real excited about him coming here in the first place, this is making me really not like it. It looks like JJ took a chance that he didn't need to and it is blowing up in his face. I guess you can't win them all.

Patton is a very good player. he would be the second best front court player on the team. Sure JJ took a chance I guess assuming he would be playing this year and it did not work. I am not really sure how it happens that the staff did not know there were academic issues. I do wonder about anyone questioning his playing ability, if he can play next year I think he would be a big upgrade over NT's departing big men.

NT should make big waves this year, worry about next year; next year.

Really? For a player that shot .405 over all, .254 from beyond the arc, and made only 57% of his FTs. He did get 7 boards a game, but compiled all of these numbers in a lesser conference. I think questioning his playing ability, especially whether he was too big a risk to take when factoring his abilities is certainly fair.

Do we really know the full story on Patton's eligibility? If Patton's grades were good this semester shouldn't UNT be OK. I thought some of Patton's eligibility issues were concerning past class credits that wouldn't transfer to UNT since Patton played JUCO ball and then at Grambling (sp) which lowered his GPA. Maybe Patton was doing OK grade wise and had a bad semester. Not all student's make 3.0 GPA or better in College.

I witnessed Patton demolish our senior last year, so I believe he's a player worthy of UNT.

Considering he only needs a 2.0 or maybe even a 1.8 to be NCAA eligible, it is pretty sad that he can not maintain a C- average

Yes the fact that he was all conference SWAC and was the best player on the court when Grambling played NT last year may have swayed my view. He lit up NT for 26 and had 10 rebounds although I don't know if you consider NT good competition. He led Grambling in both points 13.2 and rebounds 7.1 and have you looked at NT's fg% this year? When you do look at the NT stats consider that they include lopsided wins over 3 non division 1 and two SWAC schools.

Is he worth the risk, who knows. I stated I wondered why they didn't have a better handle on his academics. As far as factoring his abilities, NT is just not over blessed with a strong cadre of front court players. Yes, I stated I think he would be better than any NT front court players sans Mitchell. NT tried to recruit a ready to play center but was unable to find one, I assume Patton was the next best thing. You can question his playing ability, but the same can be said to a higher degree for Niko, Edwards, Robinson, and Holmen.
