Kenny Evans said he was shooting straight from the hip last week when he said he hoped he could get focused on football recruiting at Northeastern State this week.

Not that his shot is a little off. Evans reportedly had some recruits in this week, even though he has this unsettled distraction of where he’s going to work next season.

First there was the Missouri Southern head coaching position Evans was approached and interviewed for. To hear Evans say it, he left it on the table when salaries for his assistant coaches couldn’t be negotiated to his liking. At that point, Missouri Southern, a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association NSU joins next fall, opted for Buffalo Bills assistant Daryl Daye, like Evans a former defensive coordinator at the Joplin, Mo., school.

But that didn’t settle it. Rumors persist that Central Oklahoma will become Evans’ home. Evans, a native of Warner, isn’t saying it ain’t, but so far, neither is Central Oklahoma.
