congrats to La. Tech.! even though they lost, i felt that they stood toe to toe with TCU all evening.i would love to have our football program reach their level in the next few years. also interesting Sonny Dykes agreed to 5 year contract extension. i would have thought he had other opportunities after a stellar year. i have a hard time believing that he would stay unless he thought the Bulldogs were not long for the WAC, but just a guess.

I went to the Poinsettia Bowl two years ago for Cal vs. Utah. It was a completely different experience than watching football in TX. We tailgated, but were pretty much alone in doing so. I took a picture of a completely empty parking lot 90 minutes before kickoff. A couple hundred Utah fans did end up congregating in a white tent thing about an hour prior to the game.

Inside the game, the place was packed to the gills on both sides and it was a great time save the $9 beers.

So, two schools with big followings, less than a thousand miles from home = pretty good bowl experience

Two schools with relatively small followings (TCU growing, LA Tech, who?) 1,500 miles from home = 28,000 people from San Diego just casually checking out college football.
