Coach Mac has stated that he would like to have this class wrapped up by Christmas, and Vito is reporting 23 open ships for this class. The transfers, Feldt and Trice, are included in this number, so we have 21 scholarships to offer. We currently have the following 18 verbally committed to this class:

(3) RB: Lewis, Rollins and Tucker

(3) WR: Hines Lancaster and Schrapps

(3) OL: B. Feldt, Rice and Walling

(2) DE: Dilonga and Horton

(2) DT: McDorman and Wallace

(3) LB: Clark, LaFrance and Roberts

(2) DB: Davis and Kelly

Rollins and Tucker may be moved to DB, so who do we go after with the remaining three ships and will this class be full in four days?

I would like to see:

DB: Thomas

DT: Holmes

QB: Evans

or

DB: Thomas and Renfro

QB: Evans

Thoughts?

If we can land Holmes we gotta take him. I also like Evans at QB. I also wish we could keep at least one spot open for a late qualifier.

In this order... I'm ok with no QB this year... Secondary and DT are my main wishes to finish things out... Please SantaDMac? Please? I promise to be a good boy this year...

Also, did anybody else notice that Malik Dilonga is listed as a DT on ESPN? scout and rivals list him as a DE... Just curious if anybody else noticed. I didn't know if it was because ESPN doesn't care or if they know something scout and rivals don't know...

I don't believe that transfers are included in the 23 scholarships that will be offered. What I do believe is that the coach totals the number of scholarships returning, adds the transfers and walkons that he plans to give scholarships, subtracts that number from 85, and that figure is the number of scholarships available for this class. Of course, the number cannot exceed 25, the maximum allowed per year. He could also be holding back a couple for possible late recruits or preferred walkons.

Transfers are not included in the recruiting class but are included in the maximum 85 scholarships.

Vito confirmed it for me... I have whipped that guy with tons of email... Yes, Trice and Feldt count against the 23. We have 3 left to give...

Per Vito NT is about there, he has also indicated that Smith, a gray shirt, and Delgado will get ships out of that assumed 23. If so, it seems like NT is in poor position to grab any of those last minute players who fail to get the big offer or are dropped from other teams with over a month to go in recruiting. Although, there always is a way for the right recruit.

So, if that leaves one 'ship open, do we go after a DB or a QB?

I say QB, as we are horribly thin at that position. Can't believe we haven't already latched onto one for this class.

I agree if there is only one left it probably needs to be a QB.

We have three left.... I have confirmed this with Vito... Who confirmed it with the staff...

23 ships minus 18 hs commits minus 2 xfers equals 3 left to fill

I think Vito may be confused. I don't think either 2 transfers count on this year's scholarships. I think the extra 2 given scholarships come from the kid that is grayshirting and Delgado, who will receive a well, well, well, well earned scholarship. That would take us down to 3 ships left, which is what McCarney initially told Vito.

McCarney himself probably has the recruiting coordinator telling him how many ships are left. I dounbt he even knows the completet ins and outs of it.

McCarney did say 3 total left, though, which makes me think the above scenerio makes sense.

I think the X-fers count on last year's scholarships. I doubt Trice and Feldt paid their way through school this past year. The 2 extras must come from the grayshirt and Delgado getting the ship.

Big Shoss I'm with you just sayin IF we had only one spot left I would want a QB...I agree we have 3 that came from Mac directly. The beautiful thing is with Mac and staff we know they will do what is best...before him notsomuch.

very good sir... very good...

if we had one left, I'd choose between the highest rated defensive player available that wants to come to U of NT... dt or safety

Azuka or Leo would by my last spot...IF IF IF we only had one left to pick from.

I don't know why, but I am comfortable with Derek Thompson and McNulty/Osborn/whomever is left as my QB depth chart. I think next year may be a big qb class... hopefully they could come in next fall, red shirt while watching DT in his senior season put up monster numbers, and then really begin competing for PT the following year... Of course that means go o-line and rb's go as far as pass protection is concerned...

If the above is true then I have lost several players.

We are allowed a total of 85 scholarship players if there are no penalties. The maximum number of recruits to be given a scholarship in any year is 25. There can be an additional 20 non-scholarship players bringing the total to 105.

We have 45 players who participated in at least one game last year returning. I count 38 of those who I'm fairly certain have scholarships. Some of the remaining seven have since been given scholarships. For the sake of this exercise let's assume that all were scholarship players. There were ten scholarship players who were red-shirted and one gray shirt, bringing the total to 56. We had two transfers sit out this season but supposedly they were included in the allowed 23 total. Fifty-six and twenty-three total 79; six short of the total number of scholarship players allowed.

Does anyone know why we have been short-sheeted?

I wonder how many walk-ons earned schollies... Could that account for the difference?

I'm good with Derek, just saying if he were to get hurt I'd love to have an insurance policy. Has anyone heard what the deal is with Cooper Jones. I thought someone on here mentioned that he might move to another position...not trying to start a rumor just wondering.

After that rumor was floated on here, I remember seeing him throwing passes on the sideline during the very next game (just getting some throwing in). I believe it was the WKU game.

I'll believe he isn't going to play QB when I hear it from Coach Mac.

Not a rumor at all... Dmac said it himself on the Monday radio show that cooper may be moving positions... He seemed intriguing cause he was a 3* qb with size

What position could he play? He doesn't have the speed for a wide receiver or defensive back. He'd need to bulk up to play Tight End/H-Back. I don't know what other positions that he has ever played. This is not Class 2-A; he needs to somewhat polished at another position.

There were seven walk-ons who played according to the performance chart given the NCAA. It has been mentioned that at least three of these earned scholarships. The seven are Jeremy Brown, Colton Clay, Nick Crewe, Ivan Delgado, Lynrick Pleasant, Tanner Smith, and Nicoloas Summerfield. Those that were previous walk-ons that I believe have earned scholarships are Aaron Fortenberry, Mike Marshall, Brandon McCoy, Drew Miller, and Konockus Sashington. No other walk-ons played and surely weren't considered for a scholarship.

McCarney gave ships to Shulza and Summerflied last year. I am not sure if Miller or Marshall have ships, although Miller has played a lot the last two years. The same scenario happened last year, adding known ships to new recruits added up to a lot less than 85. I just hope they have that same last ship that they had last year that seemed be rewarded multiple times. My guess is that the 25 is the magic number not the 85 total.
