DENTON, Texas – The anticipated debut of North Texas freshman Tony Mitchell is expected to occur this week pending NCAA certification of his eligibility. Mitchell enrolled at North Texas in the spring, but cannot become eligible to play for the Mean Green until he completes two semesters of coursework.

Mitchell’s first practice is slated for Saturday following his participation in the annual Johnny Jones Free Youth Basketball Clinic, which is from 9-11 a.m. at the Physical Education Building on the North Texas campus (see the attached map). The Mean Green takes on Jackson State on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Super Pit, and Mitchell is expected to be in uniform.

The Dallas Pinkston High School product was a Slam Magazine All-American and the Dallas Morning News 2010 Player of the Year after scoring 20.5 points, 13.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 4.1 blocks per game as a senior.

Ranked as the No. 2 forward in the nation by Rivals.com in 2010, Mitchell was the leading rebounder (7.6 per game) and shot blocker (1.9 per game) for the U19 USA Basketball squad at the FIBA World Championships in July. He was recently ranked as the No. 4 center in college basketball by Lindy’s, and the CBS Sports No. 3 “Under the Radar” player in the NCAA.

CBS Sports No. 3 “Under the Radar” player in the NCAA - looking forward to a nice run during the NCAA tourney.

Mitchell joins a North Texas team that is 56-7 (88.9 percent) in home non-conference games under Johnny Jones, including wins in 15 straight and 31-of-32. As a matter of fact, North Texas has never lost more than one non-conference home game in Jones’ 11 seasons.

I know that quote isn't about TM, but it's still a great stat.
