Protesters disrupted a Denton Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Wednesday night after commissioners endorsed a permit for a natural gas well site that operated without a city permit for years.

The meeting dissolved into chaos moments after commissioners voted 5-2 for Dallas-based Eagleridge Operating’s request for a specific-use permit allowing gas drilling and production across the street from the University of North Texas’ Apogee Stadium.

A group of Occupy Denton protesters rose from their seats and, through a call-and-response pattern, shouted a statement opposing the permit and demanding that the city shut down two gas wells operating at the site.

“We refuse to stand by while the air we breathe and the water we drink is poisoned by fracking,” they said. “We demand that the city regulations are observed and that violators are denied the right to operate in this city.”

The outburst ended when a police officer escorted the lead protester from City Hall’s council chambers and others walked out chanting “Shame!” By then, chairman Jay Thomas had adjourned the meeting with an item left on the agenda.

Outside, protesters said they would take the fight to the City Council, which has the final say on the permit. They also accused city planning director Mark Cunningham of misrepresenting the issue as a zoning case, even though the permit would let the operator refracture existing wells with city staff approval.

Way to read the article.

But whatever, it's cool to drill on land that you don't have rights or permit to, have illegal dumping issues to solve, have someone drilling with the wrong permit, and laterally drill for that same gas under UNT property and then not hand off some of that money to the university, right?

Ya...it's called Capitalism. Why don't you take your "permits" and "regulations" and "ethics" back to Russia where they belong.

I'm gonna. Besides, we can totally trust corporations to govern themselves. They totally did so below:

"Denton police referred the case to the district attorney's office last week, spokesman Ryan Grelle said. They opened the investigation after city employees visited an Eagleridge well site in the 3100 block of Airport Road, about one mile west of the Bonnie Brae site, on Sept. 29 and found a pump forcing contaminated water into a tributary of Hickory Creek, according to a police report."

Looks like UNT also some level of mineral rights claim to the area, and it's right across from Apogee. Interesting. But screw it man, those Occupy people showed up, so it doesn't matter that UNT might not be getting money it's owed, that these guys dumped junk into the water system, and that it's going to ugly up the area RIGHT by our gorgeous, brand new stadium.

Been at my present employer for 3 1/2 years. No promotion, a small raise in pay, and a position that doesn't require a college degree. Doing all I can to prove my worth though.

good job, its rough but a little perseverance and hard work goes a long way.

Just be the best you can be at whatever you are doing. Someone will notice or a new gig will open up for you elsewhere. You got to believe. But you also have to "make it so". Good luck...
