Sam Rice, an offensive lineman from Coppell, has committed to UNT, Coppell head coach Joe McBride confirmed this morning.

I have yet to get Rice on the phone, so I don't have all the information I need to get a story into the paper, but he 6-4, 285, and had offers from Duke, Memphis and UTEP.

McBride said that Rice can play either guard or tackle. He was recruited by UNT offensive coordinator Mike Canales as a tackle.

Rice was a three-year starter for Coppell. McBride said that chance to play close to home was a factor in Rice's decision.

In other news, OG Sam Rice (6’4 275 pounds) from Coppell, TX (Coppel HS) received an offer from UTEP. Rice has offers from Memphis, Duke and UTEP. He also was a member of Coppell HS Wrestling team. Rice demonstrates good technique as a run and pass blocker and has the size and athleticism for the offensive tackle position. He needs to improve his upper body strength as well as his ability to knock defenders off the line when run blocking.

Excellent run blocker, one of the best I have seen. Pretty good footwork in pass protection, can be caught leaning, will need a little work, but overall one of the most impressive players we have committed so far.
