The BOD unanimously approved the immediate submission of a request for an exemption from the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) granting the MW champion automatic qualification for the BCS bowls games following the 2012 and 2013 football seasons. The Mountain West met the threshold to request an exemption by virtue of its performance during the recently completed four-year (2008-2011) evaluation period.

The uphill battle the MWC faces is the teams that helped the conference qualify for the waiver are leaving for other conferences.

I am curious as to why the MWC would not be considered given its four year track record with the teams it did have. All the other conferences are not judged by the teams they lost, why would the MWC be looked at differently?

the fact that those teams are leaving doesn't matter, they can still use them as part of their sample period and show that 'their' teams made multiple BCS bowls
