OK, so UCF is joining the Big East, thus C-USA, which also lost SMU and Houston, needs members and would like a presence in Florida, so FAU and FIU are likely targets, right?

Well, not so fast. It appears the most likely scenario is that the 9-team C-USA will merge with the 7-team Mountain West, creating a 16-team coast-to-coast conference.

That is neat and tidy and wouldn’t mean poaching from the Belt or MAC or WAC.

And FAU AD Craig Angelos said even if a spot opens in C-USA, he would take a hard look to see if it was really a better place to be than the Sun Belt.

“I feel the Sun Belt is on the rise,” Angelos said. “We won’t consider a move unless it is clear how we would benefit from it.”

So they need to add a school in the Dallas market to get to an even number. :thumbsu:

or Florida. their stated goal is 18 football programs. looks like Navy is staying put and ECU has a decent shot at Big East, which needs 2 more football only members. that would put CUSA/MWC at 16.until dust settles in Big East,CUSA/MWC won't have an accurate existing membership headcount.

I just cant understand how anyone would ever think the Sunbelt is a better option than any other conference. Hopefully RV doesn't feel the same.

What do you want him to say, "Hell yeah, the minute we get the chance, even though we don't know for sure we will get that chance and may be stuck here for awhile, we are getting out of this dump." What would that accomplish? Of course they would be out the second the invite came, but he can't say that without burning some bridges, just like we can't say that. What opinions of ECU do you think CUSA leadership has?
