With 7 or 8 scholarships left to give out what positions are you looking at as areas of need still.

Here's a rough breakdown of what we have thus far. This is including the transfers as they count towards the 25 scholarships we have to hand out but do not count towards recruit rankings.

4 DL - Malik Dilonga, Sir Calvin Wallace, Dylan McDorman, Brad Horton

2 LB - Royce LaFrance, Jarrian Roberts

3 DB - Xavier Kelley, Devante Davis, Marcus Trice

3 OL - Cam Feldt, Boone Feldt, Chase Walling

2 WR - Roderick Lancaster, Nick Schrapps

0 RB -

0 QB -

2 Ath - Rex Rollins, Andrew Tucker. I have both listed here as there have been reports that they could end up defensive side of the ball

1 QB - You should take a QB in every class.

1 OL - I think we need one more big ugly to help ensure quality depth.

1 RB - I say we need a rb bc of the possiblities of the CH guys moving positions. Cameron Washington anyone???

1 WR - We are in need of big time help here.

1 DL - With happened to both DT's from last years class we need more bodies here.

1 DB - We lose the starting 4 here. Need depth.

With the final ship I would offer it to the best available.

Let's hear your thoughts on areas of need in this class.

I added Christian Hines to your current commit list. Confirmed by Vito...

I'd say we have 6 left...

Lets go, 3 DT's, 1 DB, 1 RB, 1 QB...

Yeah Mac stated we would have 23 to give. I want another DT and I would say maybe 2 QBs, both athletes who could play another position. I would be ALL over another DE/TE and after that another corner and more size on either side of the lines.

I also think you nailed the list, but I would make a change to what we offer with our 6 or 7 remaining ships. I would go after DL's, DB's and WR's. I think we are solid at OL with what we currently have on the roster and what is committed. Our DL is lacking quality depth, and although Coach Mac wants to focus on HS kids, I would like to see on JUCO DL in this class. I would also rather see us go after the RB from Corsicana than the one from Coldspring Oakhurst.

Alrighty, we disagree Lifer... This is good...

While I agree with you on all positions of need(replace wr with a quality QB), I do feel we need to continue the trend of HS kids through and through.

My ideal world is to get HS DT's and redshirt them every year...give them a year of eating and working out... that obviously doesn't help next year, but for the health of the program, this HAS to be his philosophy...

Now, if we did dabble in the juco ranks, they MUST be mid term transfers... not showing up on campus in the fall...

Losing the Duncanville DT makes it imperative to add another DT and there may be some impact ones that come available late. Which brings me to my next point, Dickey would always keep one spot available for a impact late qualifier. This is how he landed Cody Spencer. I would hope that Mac does the same.

2 DE - Malik Dilonga, Brad Horton

4 DT - Sir Calvin Wallace, Dylan McDorman, 1 HS, 1JUCO

2 LB - Royce LaFrance, Jarrian Roberts

4 DB - Xavier Kelley, Devante Davis, 1 HS, 1 JUCO Safety

3 OL - Boone Feldt, Chase Walling, 1 high school

3 WR - Roderick Lancaster, Nick Schrapps, Christian Hines

1 TE - High school only

2 RB - Rex Rollins, Andrew Tucker

1 QB - High school only

1 Ath- High school only basically one of those Phillips, Graham, Will Wright type of guys that develop into LBs or DBs depending on skill and need

That should be 23.

I have a feeling that if we see any JUCOs, it will soon as mid-term eligible transfers only. Which I mostly support. I say sign the big, talented JUCO defensive tackle whenever he wants to come, but other than that.

It may seem like a lot of DBs, but we only have 5 scholarship DBs coming back (Hilbert Jackson, Swarn, Lee, Warner, Trice) at a position were we played 8+ deep this year (and needed to is some ways). A JUCO DB that could play either CB or S would help.

The DT situation is worse, with only 3 (yes 3) scholarship players returning at that position. We need help now. You can't hold up with that few in the middle. JUCO please.

With the youth and depth we have at OL and the lack of depth at WR, I would also be ok with just 2 OL recruits and a 4th WR, especially a good JUCO.

I agree with you on this, but must add IF we do not get a really TOP-RATE DT recruit, then we should stick to high school. I've seen too many JC defensive linemen come in over the past 30 years who basically took up a scholarship and contributed little.

looks like we can take a Rb and OL off the wish list. Still would like to see a stud DL and DB. Where is the QB at? I'd be shocked if we don't land one but it's getting down to the wire.

I made additions in bold above which brings our total, including transfers Feldt and Trice, to 19 commitments. Shouldn't that leave us with 6 positions to fill or just 4? I know Mac stated signing 23 but didn't know if that number included the tranfers.

If it is just four more, I would like to see the following:

QB: Je'rod Evans, Mansfield

DL: Tyler Holmes, Sachse

DB: Leo Thomas, SA Sam Houston

Best of the Rest: Polo Manjkainiu (don't think we have a chance) or Quintaz Struble

That scenario of getting those 3 would be unbelievable!

One spot left for late qualifier?

I'm sure the coaches (and pretty much all of you guys) know better than I do what we need, but here's what I'd like to see (I'm assuming we have 3 spots left):

Scotty Young

Leo Thomas

Deion Sanders Jr.

My Reasoning:

It seems to me like DB is our biggest concern next year (I'm not as concerned about DL as many on the board, mostly because I think our coaches are especially good and getting a lot out of our DL).

Scotty Young and Deon Sanders would bring us a lot of pub/attendance and both seem to be great players, potential immediate impact players (but lots of love to DT, who is becoming a darn good QB). Leo Thomas could be a first year starter. With Leo Thomas, Swarn, Warner, and Sanders playing together that's a lot of upside for our DBs looking forward. LB is already stacked. We could have a scary defense in years to come.

QB isn't a huge area of need (though would like more depth), but Scotty Young seems to me to be the best player available at any position that we have a reasonable shot at getting and a stud QB makes a huge difference.

I love reading all of your thoughts, so feel free to critique what I've written.

I don't know enough about Deion, Jr. but I'm definitely with you on Leo Thomas and Scotty Young. I'd kinda like Jordan Batiste to round out the class.
