Well put. Probably not the best example but one of my best friends was born and raised in Dubai and he had no idea of what football was when he moved here during his high school years. He went to UT and one day went to a football game and he's been a die hard Longhorns and football fan ever since. Again I know it is UT but we need to stop labeling our students as weirdos, hippies and music majors, art people etc because that holds no water. Go to other schools and people that fall under those groups like sports, attend games and have pride for their school.

at UT "gameday" is the event..pre and post and during...the game is just one aspect of the event...you wouldn't drive to Austin to get there just in time for kickoff...it is the atmosphere and the conversation and friends and party time for all...its the culture..the spirit.

I flew up for the UH game and thought this was great...never seen that before at UNT..but as much as I like UNT and UNT football, it is costly to fly, hotel, rent car, food, tickets, etc...spending this for a team that hasn't won 5 games since 2004 and is playing FAU or the like just doesn't cut it for me...if I was local..different story.

Rawlins and team has to change the culture around Denton..students and Denton residents alike....winning is a big part of that. I do believe we are on the right track and now is the time to push the culture change, etc.

" but I do think it has gotten to the point that Rawlins and the administration need to seriously get involved somehow in the attendance issue. I don't know: memo the prof''s, call an emergency meeting, involve all levels in formulating a strategy,"

This is EXACTLY what I said and you found every need to disagree with me.

No, I simply disagreed with your notion that it's perfectly rational for students to avoid games in which they could possibly get their dipstick wet. A pancho, plastic undies, or Glad Wrap should do the trick.
