Body Bag Games

Im interested to see if the SBC will reduce the body bag games due to being bowl eligible... I know WKU* didnt make it but if you start adding wins and reducing loses your chances will be better. But to me its all about the money, the bowl committee wants a good game and to sell seats. Theyre in business to make a profit not to be fair, if you have a problem with people making money then go work for free and see how long that last.

I understand that body bag games bring in lucrative dollars but im interested to see what the schools are going to do. North Texas has a greater chance to reduce them due to the stadium sponsorship. But other schools they are taking a chance and risking a profit in the short term but possibly more in the long run in donations and TV contracts in other conferences. Marginal Cost = Marginal Benefit is easy on paper to find but hard to find out in reality.

I am little confused by this post - UL only played one body bag game (Okie State) and they are definitely in a bowl game (New Orleans Bowl). I would not consider Arizona a body bag game. NT only had one (Bama)... FIU played one potential body bagger and won the game (Louisville), played another good team in UCF and beat them, they beat Akron on the road, and they should have beat Duke at home but lost in OT after giving up a huge lead. They finished OOC at 3-1.

The only big offenders were FAU with 3 (Florida, Michigan State, and Auburn - to help pay for a new stadium), ULM with 3 (FSU, Iowa, TCU, Grambling - to make up for the lowest athletic budget in all of FBS), and Troy with 2 (Clemson, Arkansas, UAB, Navy). UL played Kent State, Nichols State, Arizona, and Okie State and went 2-2... NT had all winnable games in OOC except for Bama. Most teams only play one, maybe two body baggers these days unless they really need the money (FAU/ULM).

One game makes a big difference, thats my point. Every game counts look at Ok State and Stanford. They lost one game and there out of the national championship game. Houston lost the championship game and there out of a BCS game, the more wins the better...plain and simple

Dr. Suess is right. After finding teams that are bowl eligible, the most critical thing bowl promoters are looking for is attendance. they look at attendence numbers and how likely those fans are to travel to the bowl game. When North Texas fans stay home, they hurt the Mean Green.

Some fans complain about the Sun Belt Conference. NT must win, dominate the Sun Belt first, but North Texas fans must show up to watch North Texas regardless of who the opponent is.

Interesting they want numbers but does anyone believe UCLA fans care about some bowl for their 6-7 team or will Piit actually take their 6-6 team with fans in tow to play SMU who does not travel at all. The onyl 6-6 match-up that is intriguing is OSU-Florida just for penis measuring purposes by their fans

Keep in mind WKU lost their own body bag game to an FCS opponent - I'd say that negated their whole season.

If you consider Louisville a body bag game for FIU, then certainly Arizona is one for ULL...

Arizona had a down year this year, no doubt about it...

But before the season began I guarantee you the line on Arizona and Louisiana was off the board... The Wildcats would have been prohibitive double-digit favorites at home, ie. a body bag game...

What is encouraging is that Sun Belt teams are taking these games against second-tier BCS schools on the road and either acquitting themselves nicely or actually winning...

It speaks to the direction of the Belt and the commitment of it's member schools to fielding nationally competitive teams...

That being said, if they can afford it, Sun Belt teams should try and stay away from games against the Alabama's, LSU's, Oklahoma's, etc...

They aren't winnable games and the outcomes have the potential to be a black eye on the conference if things get out of hand, which they often do...

I never said that Arizona, Kentucy or Louisville were body bags, Im talking about the power houses OU, Bama, LSU, UT. Ok State to me wasnt a bad choice just because they played at ULL last year but I still dont know if I would do it. Or K State, we almost pulled off a victory with 19 guys on out. I think playing lower AQ teams are great, you get to see how you face outside of the conference and actually have a chance to win a game.

Eliminate body bag games and replace them with programs where we actually have a shot to make it a game. That is part of the reason many people don't take UNT football seriously because we play the super heavy weights and they can be leading by 40-50 points by halftime or early in the 3rd quarter. Get rid of those completely.

in 1998, Darrell Dickey's first season, we played OU,TT,Arizona State, TA&M,Houston, and Kansas. we have come a long way in scheduling since then, and are down to about 2 per year.an underfunded program such as ours will always schedule a few games "up" in order to pay the bills. this may change somewhat when student fees begin to accumulate, but i doubt it. however, we should approach the point in next few years under coach MAC that CUSA,WAC,MAC, and MWC games are realistic opportunities for a win.

I think the stadium sponsorship replaces the body bag games... Most of them are 600-750, Georgia 950 and were getting 1 mil from Apogee. RV is in it for the long term, I think he'll realize that these games hurt us more than help us.

Making 750k to lose is nice, but not being able to go to a bowl game bc of it, hurts us more. Theres a lot of "if's" that play into it but I just hope we get out of all of them in the future, unless we turn into a TCU or Boise State in the next 2-3 years because of Mac .
