This will be the championship game of the Gene Hackerman Invitational hosted by Rice. Here is how the teams got there:

North Texas 60-53 Oregon State

Texas A&M-CC 64-61 Rice

Rice was heavily favored, but managed to lose at home. TAMU-CC is very beatable. Tip-off is at 7pm tomorrow in Houston.

For the first time since I started my support of UNT sports (2005), I am genuinely excited about women's basketball. What a pleasant surprise. I figure it another couple of years of rebuilding... hopefully the girls continue this through the regular SBC season.

Right there with you. Never got into WBB in the Slinker years. I started paying a little more attention when they hired Shanice, but that fairly quickly turned into disgust. Comparisons are difficult, but Coach Aston may prove to be the best head coach we have in any sport.

Oregon State beat Rice, so our wins were over the 2nd and 3rd place teams.

Rice finished LAST in it's own tournament.

Here's a telling sign that this entire team has bought into what their coach is selling and how coach KA will get the best out of her team.

Sarah Stanley, a first-year(transfer from McClennon CC), an early women's version of Ben Knox the first 5 to 7 games, who up until last night was only averaging 4.75 minutes a game and not much else, had her first double double in 20 minutes last night.

Great job ladies!
