That last line is certainly watching through green colored glasses right now. Our fan base isn't that oblivious to think how bad historically this program has been...they don't need any coaching...they are a show me the results fan base(just like everybody else) as it should be.

Mike Leach is exactly what this program needed because we have been so bad and so irrelevant for so long that something like that could have fueled excitement to our program and Apogee would be sold out and beyond every home game even in our crummy ol conference.

As far as self absorbed genius who really knows...I think to be a head coach and especially a college head coach you need to some ego along with total charisma and it is Leach that fits that bill.

At Wazzou, Leach will do exactly what he did at Tech. He'll get a QB to pass it about 50+ a game, he will fix the OOC to not include one AQ team (look at Tech's OOC after he was there about 3 years), and his teams will get to 7-8 wins pretty regularly. He will get a season or two where 9+ wins will come into play, too. And along the way, the WSU alums and administration will get tired of the fact that all he wants to do is coach, not glad-hand big-money donors.

His ego would never have let him accept being a head coach at a school like North Texas. He might have gone the non-AQ route, but it wasn't going to be in the state where his last school plays and that school was in the worst league in FBS. It would've been a higher school in the MWC that could pay a lot more and could give him the chance to get national attention.

Ask a TTU alum how they feel about his dismissal.

Ask a big-money Tech alum that gives to the program how they feel about his dismissal...

Hint--it will be different from the young tech grad.

Leach and McCarney - they have this in common: neither have won a conference title as a head coach.

Leach? Overhyped. All offense, no defense.

McCarney? Coached in a big boy conference at one of the two smallest programs in it.

McCarney's got championship rings as an assistant (Wisconsin, Florida), and a national title ring (Florida).

Leach does not.

Leach is a sideshow. McCarney understands it takes defense to win long term.

Given the choice between the two, give me McCarney.

I like McCarney....he was our best option at the price point we were looking for. But you're high if you think Leach wouldn't have been a better choice if he was an option.

That depends on what Leach would have been willing to do as UNT coach.

I'd rather have a head coach that kisses babies than one that allegedly abuses players. Too few babies are kissed, and too many people are abused.

Yeah, it is always a tragedy to hear of a douchebag being forced to stand in a large closet.

Dear God what is becoming of this country?

That depends on the doner... trust me. And none of them are now happy with where they now find themselves.

One of the wackiest comparisons you have ever made. You know good and well that Leach left OU (and the offense and players that he recruited) the year before OU won the national title. If he had stayed, he has a ring.

There were, what, 9 other assistants on each of the staffs at Wisconsin and Florida along with Coach Mac? Are they also better coaches than Leach?

Craziness.

Christ, three pages and Mike Leach is still being discussed.

Look, even if we had had the money to offer Leach a job, AND he was (for whatever strange reason...and it WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANGE) interested in North Texas, he would have been a terrible hire. He might be a genius, but he is a self-absorbed genius, and not someone who is inclined to do the kind of promoting that our program needs.

Let me put this simply. WE NEED SOMEONE TO COACH NOT ONLY OUR TEAM, BUT OUR FAN BASE AS WELL. We need a Prof. Harold Hill/Hayden Fry type of coach.

Warts and all, Coach McCarney fills that bill better than Coach Leach.

We are really rehashing old crap and I'm very happy (so far) with Coach McCarney, but...

IF we had hired Leach, season ticket sales this year would have been double the amount sold, the 1st home game is a sellout, and we would be padding the numbers on a new season attendance record that was achieved one, maybe 2 games ago. He would have given this program instant legitimacy in the eyes of UNT ALUMNI, which are really who you are trying to get involved.

If you can't see this, you need a new prescription.

But, GMG.

They don't give rings for "if" you were there. OU turned the ball over a bunch and coughed up double digit leads with Leach as OC in 1999. They took care of the ball better in 2000 with Mangino calling the plays. Leach has no idea what ball control and defense are.

Also, yes...at minimum, Dan Mullen and Charlie Strong, yes. Better than Leach.

The problem with Leach is his pending lawsuit against another state institution. Tech used mainly Big XII money to build facilities. Yes, Leach attracted more fans and donors based on his success, but his personality eventually ran many off. I am good friends with a player's dad, and know this first hand through him.

FFR, no, I don't need a WSU hat. Was that your best comeback. You've touted Leach for so long and seem to have become bitter towards your alma mater, so I thought you might jump on the Cougar bandwagon.

Wrong on both counts my friend. Im not bitter towards anything. Hell, I own women's basketball season tickets for the first time in my life. And during the countless pages of debates between those of us who said we were missing an opportunity, and those who claimed to know for fact that no school would ever touch either and risk a PR hit so long as they had pending lawsuits against their former employers, I wanted Jim Leavitt, not Mike Leach.

So, what you are saying then is that the losing record this year at UNT is the sole responsibility of Coach Mac, right?

If the above is the way you judge your football coaches, you really shouldn't blame a losing record on TD this year and bemoan the condition of the program, because the previous coach isn't responsible for anything in your playbook.

Such double standards.

You're crediting Leach with a championship ring won after he left a school?

Scroll back through the season - I haven't given McCarney a pass. That's well documented. The losing record is the sole responsibility of McCarney...he said no excuses, and I've been one of the few fans who have held onto that.

Mike Leach is overblown, and I'll go further - Kevin Sumlin is overblown as well. His defenses are terrible. If A&M hires him as they go into the SEC, it will be a worse hire than Dennis Franchione and Mike Sherman combined.

That sound like standard Aggie operating procedure.
