Rankings are rankings. Point is, you can't deny this is one of the teams with most talent and expectations ever at UNT. Today's performance was ridiculous for a team with any level of decent talent. This needs to be a wake-up call.

Until they step on the court, you have no idea how good they really are. I'll tell you how to "rank" this class in a few years. Edited by CMJ

I still think this class will turn out to be pretty good. It's one game...these things happen from time to time. This season will have a lot of growing pains. It's not like we're Kentucky or UNC where we can get 2 or 3 4 and 5 star recruits complimented by 3 star players. Then it may be cause for concern.

I could honestly care less about rankings. That's not my point. The point is, this team HAS talent and they are NOT playing like they should be. It is fine to develop as a team and lose some games, but not when you get embarrassed like this. Shows there is a big disconnect amongst players and coaches. You just hope these issues get aggressively addressed.

Yes, playing against 14-18 year olds can be quite different than playing against 18-23 year olds. Sometimes it just takes time. That is especially true when you're talking about so much youth and so few proven veterans on the same team.

I mean not to compare JJ and Coach K, but when Duke's class of '86 (the ones that turned his tenure at Duke around) were freshman in '82-83, they were absolutely obliterated a few times.

Three years later they played in the National Title game.

I'm not saying we're gonna be playing in April anytime soon, but these kinda of losses can happen with freshman dominated teams.

I understand that. I'm not saying this team won't be good and improve. I'm just not liking the way they are currently playing. They can lose and be confused about their roles and coaching, but today I did not see motivation and intensity. That's what's not excusable.

Anyone know who to talk to about gettin Jordan Williams on the track team? Watching him he looks stiff and flat footed. I think track will get him flexible and fluid which will make him quicker. Johnny Quinn.

32-0 run. Enough said

See, if you take away that run, we only lose by 1 ....

What? It works on the football board.

Wow. You mean there is a difference between high school and college competition? BS!!! These kids need to be All-Conference right now, damnit!!!!

But seriously, I thought we might lose this game. Young team against experienced, athletic, big UTA team equals a loss this early in the season. This rteam is still searching to define each player's role. UTA saw the game tape from Tech and basically decided that they would not let Jones beat them, pressing and doubling him throughout the 1st half. So far, no one else on this team has established that they can create their own shot (which is an absolute must in the JJ offense).

Be prepared to enter conference play with 4 or 5 wins. Be prepared for a .500 or worse season. Not saying it will happen, but with a team this young, it very well could.

You made the bolded statement quite clear when you started this thread.

Okay, so UNT loses to UTA 97-64! I didn't watch the game and I just got back home and pulled up the score and thought there was a typo. Wasn't this team supposed to be a top 30 class??? (without Tony Mitchell). I don't care how "out of it" the players may have been or if we played without some starters, this score is completely embarrassing to the program and JJ needs to step it up by making the players realize that their "talent" needs to be SHOWN at the games. They won't win by simply showing up to the games....it doesn't work that way. What a disappointment.

The talent is probably there, but you can't expect freshman to come out and dominate the game or even play well night in and night out. We're not the top 10 teams who can start two or three 5 star recruits and coast to the elite 8. These are three star recruits on a young team where the only returning players have average talent (at best) and the other non freshmen are transfers in their first year. They will need time to get their legs under them and figure out what JJ wants from him and how to do it.

There will be more of these to come, maybe not this bad, but bad.

as long as they're ready by tourney time it's OK by me. We can always dream, but our doing better than winning the SBC tourney and going against some Duke of the world is about as much as reasonably possible this year in my opinion. Next year is a different story.

I'm pretty sure there was only one service that ranked us in the top 30, and it wasn't Rivals. This was a great class, no doubt. Definitely something to be excited about, but they haven't played but 4 games in DIV1 basketball. They have the talent, what they don't (yet) have is chemistry. Just give it time folks. Good lord, I think what's happening is people are taking their expectations of the team plus Tony Mitchell and applying it to the current team. You basically have 3 players coming back and then there's 6 in the rotation that have never played D1 ball. They need time to gel and figure out each others tendencies, it's really early in the season, the good news is SBC play does nto start for a while, and we have time to get ready for it.

Everyone please tap the brakes, when T Mitch comes in the team will have some experience and his play will only boost the team. The west looks like it is weaker and weaker everyday so far this season with ASU basically falling off the map. We have a good shot to get a high seed in the conference tourney. I could care less what seed we would potentially get, because I think by that time the players will progress and know each other tendencies and our talent alone will give us a decent shot come March.

Or is it age based? Like at least 20 or 21 by draft day?

The rule now is 1 year after High School. A proposal being kicked around is 2 years after HS. Tony will be around but this is his 2nd year out of Pinkston. A kid does not have to attend college (Brandon Jennings)
