Yes, it's a ripoff of the Marshall chant.

I heard Penn State fans use it last week against Nebraska ....thought it would sound good with our double-name too.

Besides, we need a new chant for the football games.

I'm actually not sure who started the chant as I have heard many schools do a variation.

Our cheerleaders actually used it during the 2007 basketball tournament (if you can find the old videos, you can hear them chanting it as time runs down in the championship game).

It doesn't sound right for us IMHO because the syllables are off. Maybe "We are NT" (Which is a play on what Notre Dame does with their "We are ND" chant.)

I've heard "we are (clap clap) ND and the same for Southern Cal (we are, clap clap SC). I've always thought that we could do the same and say "we are (clap clap) NT, and then alternate between NT and Mean Green in the yell/chant.

Actually, Marshall ripped it off from Penn State. Penn State has been doing the chant since 1947.

How about:

Ooom gowa,

MEAN green powah,

you'll all be dead beaten,

in about an owah!

I gave you a plus 1, but dead is not a good word to use in a chant. How about beaten or some other word. Dead just sends a bad vibe.
