HS playoff at Apogee

Having a HS playoff game at a college stadium isnt going to bring players here. How are you going to get a college experience with a HS crowd of 5k... Its not Cowboy Stadium, where people will come to see a game but mainly see the stadium. Players are gonna come to North Texas because they can win games, go to bowl games, and have a better opportunity, not bc of a stadium. The stadium is the bells and whistles, players dont wanna play in a dump (fouts) but they want to play in a college atmosphere (AQ type. You can have the nicest stadium in all of the NCAA but if you dont have the game day experience, it means nothing

There are a lot of variables on why players choose a particular college, and they don't all think exactly alike. Jordan Williams had offers to play for a million colleges, and he chose NT. Players are only allotted so many official visits, and if we can get a player on campus who otherwise would not be taking an official visit to UNT, who knows what might happen? Hayden Fry used to say something to the effect of, "If I can get them on campus, I can get them to sign to play at NT." This way, you're getting them on campus. At the very least, it's a way of potentially generating interest among players that might otherwise not be interested.

Jordan came to North Texas, because of the coaches, a great program, close to home, and his first visit to North Texas was at the Texas Tech game. And What did he enjoy most about... Having a college type of atmosphere, that he never got in HS.

Im not saying its a bad thing, but people are over exaggerating this. Its great they get to play here and see the stadium but all theyll do is go to the locker rooms, play the game and leave. Theres not much touring for a playoff game, and getting to talk to the coaches..Its a playoff game, not a camp

My stance all along on this has been that having a playoff game at Apogee will give us an opportunity to show to two groups of fanatical people (the parents, friends,& townsfolk of the respective teams) that North Texas has got it going on with their new facilities. And if the participating players have enough time to look around a little bit whilst preparing for the game, and come to the same conclusion......so much the better.

At least we have now taken away one of the biggest slams used against us by recruiters at other schools.

I think that's all anybody's saying. No one's going to commit upon playing a HS playoff game in a college's stadium. But it can generate interest when players see the quality of the facilities, and can help us get a foot in the door.

Not sure when Jordan Williams made his first visit, but it definitely wasn't Texas Tech.

Weeks after committing, we saw him in the stands at the Rice football game. And again for Louisiana-Lafayette, when Devonta Abron took his official visit.

Is our stadium fee negotiable or is it set in concrete?

Honestly, though, look around many Texas 4A and 5A high school football palaces and then tell me that 2 play-off schools spltting the difference of our Apogee fee is still too high.

Does North Texas get parking and concessions with these games?

GMG!

PS: UNT's undergrad admissions should make sure there are some great propaganda brochures or leaflets about our school. These games will get many non-athletic general students on our campus of which some will be future North Texas students.

Man, people can be such downers here on GMG.

Having several thousand people and the high school players, coaches and parents come to Apogee is free marketing for UNT athletics. We finally have facilities that work for us instead of against us.

Will it make a huge difference? Maybe not. But the more high school games at Apogee, the more people in Texas will know that we have a hell of a stadium. Treat them to a nice gameday experience and some of them might even come back just to watch games.

Spoke to the facilities director yesterday for a local HS stadium that hosts playoff games nearly every weekend during the playoffs.

Said he must pay the UIL 15% off the gate. The refs get 1% of the gate, and he keeps the rest. Plus he keeps the parking and concessions. However, the groups that work parking gets $500 as a fundraiser and the concessions do too.

He hires two policemen as well, one for each side.

They also have suites available. Said if someone from the two schools wants to rent them he gets the food catered to them for free as a donation due thru a prior contract. Said he has never had a problem getting local eateries willing to do this because it's a nice ad for them for future business.

Said a good sized 3A crowd will clear about $2500. Apparently he has done a quality job getting the word out because yeasterdsy they had Stephenville call inquiring about their facility? Doesn't surprise me though because this guy works his promotional ass off, to the point where when it came time to purchase their new state of the art video board for the new stadium he got it donated for free so long as they left open an ad space on it for the manufacturer to use, plus allow them to showcase it in person to potential buyers.
