At the start of the season, there are always oddities in the rankings. I seem to recall last year we started off in the Top 25 at CBS. Heck we moved from 320 to 85 in 1 week after a win over a DII team.

That poll loses all credibility once you see the next 10-20 teams underneath them. As much as I want to be a Sun Belt homer, they could not beat most of those teams

They looked respectable against a solid VaTech team, but yeah a 28th ranked team doesn't lose to Illinois the way they did. Nor could they hang with someone like Auburn.

Illinois is a good team. And look at what Missouri did to Texas. Good teams have bad games and that was the first game of the season. All the rankings I'm seeing have ASU not far off from this CBS poll. I think we see them getting votes for top 25 before all is said and done, could even crack it if they win out including their bowl game. Would be really good for the belt to see that happen.

Uh, this is a football poll, not basketball chrisfisher.

As you surmised, I thought I was in the basketball forum. Sorry about that.

i personally have found the Sagarin rating the most accurate. he rates ASU 55,ULL 84,FIU 91, WK 114, NT 120, La.Monroe,127, Troy 148, MTSU 160, USA 173, FAU 190, & Indiana 132.[ Alabama 3, Houston 23, & Tulas 27.]this is out of 246 football teams. WK index is 61.03, NT 59.53. adding in 2.41 for home field advantage, we should be a 1 point favoeite. for those unfamilar with Jeff Sagarin, he is a 1970 MIT math graduate.
