Did Gil Brandt call Apogee a Taj Mahal? I wasn't sure......

Apogee is great but let's not go comparing it to b12 stadiums. I know its new and nice and the amenities are great and it will hopefully do wonders for recruiting. Bathrooms and vendors aren't what make a stadium. I feel like some people on here think its the best stadium in Texas because some nice people said some nice things about it. They post these things in other boards all the time....repeatedly. People on other boards have actually started making fun of how many times pics of the new stadium have been posted on their boards. Does Gil think our stadium is very nice? Probably. Does he honestly think its the taj Mahal? Meh, prob not. As far as neines goes, we were paying him so I'm sure he will say nothing bit nice things. Apogee is probably the nicest stadium in the sun belt and probably one of the nicest of non-aq's. Let's be proud of what we have....not get carried away with it.

And until we have a sellout season, the word "expand" or any words derived from that probably shouldn't be used.

E.R.R., I have Gil Brandt's exact quote on the signature part of every post I post. (Check bottom of this post) I don't think he was just joshin' us, either.

And the Neinas quote was what others have said about our getting one helluva' deal for $78 million. Heard one couple weeks ago say that if construction were begun now on Apogee Stadium that it would cost at least $100,000,000.oo to build it. Of course, the depressed state of the USA economy last few years probably helped UNT get a good quote from those who built Apogee, too..

If we had built Apogee at an initial capacity of 40,000 (only 9K more seats than present capacity), we would have received even more plaudits from many others like Gil Brandt, too, IMHO. But I know that day will come and probably sooner than most will say on this board. I wonder how all this new "non AQ conference" BCS that Nienas projects will include stadium size minimums? It has before if we will all recall.

We have a nice stadium, they'll get a nice stadium. All is good in the world.

And I find it absurd we cant compare our stadium to a Big 12 stadium. Just cuz they are much bigger and completely full doesn't make the stadium itself necessarily better. Amenities is what makes things important in life. Would you rather live in a really big beatiful house with no furniture and no ammenities or a much small house but you have a nice furniture, desirable amenties and feel good when you're inside your home?

Let's just win and keep on with the pursuit of consistently filling up Apogee.

I agree that its great he said that. Feel free to say it around here. It just gets to be a beating to see people on other boards make fun of us because we post that everywhere. Repeatedly posting on other boards does absolutely nothing to help our chances in moving anywhere. The people that need to know, know. If they don't then you can blame the administration. BTW, I'm on a phone so I can't see signatures here.

You are basically asking would I rather watch a game in old Kyle field or new Apogee. It's not the amenities.....its the atmosphere. I love apogee but they don't compare. Maybe someday but not now

If AD's and presidents of conferences we want to be in are reading these boards and basing their decisions on what they see and read on conference smack boards, then maybe your are right; but I really in my heart of hearts think that is not the case.. In fact, I think the fate of North Texas to be in either CUSA or MWC this re-alignment go around has probably already been decided. Those who decide are not going to get on a board like this and say: "Wow! You posters have convinced us without us having to do one minutes worth of our own research." Just sayin'....

GMG!

PS: Of course how much did the Big East really research........oh, hell, forget it, I am not going there again.

PS II: Ed, we are getting slammed on some of these boards based on what we've been doing in Mean Green Country athletically most of the last 25 years. We have had a little more success than SMU in that same timeline, but we don't get the same "sweet precious media darling" attitude that SMU gets from some media outlets, either. (Of course, SMU also knows how to and who to wave that money they most impressively have in their coffers, too).

This. Apogee definitely has the potential and there is no doubt it is a first class venue, however it will take time for the proper atmosphere to grow. Obviously, a winning football program would do wonders. If someone would choose between watching a game in a 60% full Apogee and a 100% full DKR-Memorial Stadium for example, there is no doubt in my mind that they would pick DKR.

It's all about atmosphere in college football, not necessarily the venue. Just like in baseball, Fenway Park is so esteemed for it's atmosphere but when it comes down to the stadium itself, it is old and out of date.

With respects to atmosphere, there's really nowhere in America like Kyle Field. And certainly nowhere in the Big 12. Maybe Autzen in Oregon. But I've never been there, so I can't personally attest to it. Aggies are weird, but they know how to chant and cheer.

If we actually filled Apogee and had people standing and cheering, it would likely be one of the best non-BCS gameday atmospheres. We just need to get everyone to buy in to that vision.

And as with everything, winning solves this.

Off-topic, but I always read your posts in Wash voice.

Call me different, but I would rather watch a game in Apogee than in Kyle Field.

1. Because it is where the Mean Green are playing.

2. It is louder than Fouts and more fun.

When we fill it up and continue the yelling with the added volume, it won't be one of the best atmospheres in a non-bcs house. It will be one of the best atmospheres in college football: Intimidating, loud, proud and disruptive.

When I sit in Sam Boyd or Aloha Stadium I realize just how nice of a football home we have.

I know it's a difficult concept, but the title of this forum is Mean Green Football, which means it should be about...the Mean Green. It's pretty simple.

We're all guilty of posting non-unt stuff, but sometimes it gets out of hand. I find it funny that so many people on this board complain about the lack of media coverage, but if you look at this forum threads about other schools always go multiple pages while UNT threads are lucky to go past two. Why should other people care about us when we seem to be more interested in other schools? And this just isn't about the current Penn State situation.

Maybe not now but if Todd Dodge were still here you'd see page after page about UNT football (or lack of it).

Your homerism has clouded your judgement and that's okay. You missed the point. Apogee could be great someday. It will never be Kyle field, DKR, or any b12 stadium.....not in the foreseeable future. I love to watch us play but even if we squeezed 32k in there.....it won't be comparable to those other places. Will we be loud and will we enjoy it? Yes and yes.

Now wait just a gol' darn minute! (insert my Yosemite Sam voice).

Actually, I "borrowed" the Baylor Stadium link from the University of Houston football section and have seen the same link on at least 2 other Texas-based university smack board's football sections as well.

Moderator, ie, The Tasty Greek or Harry can yank this thread off this board anytime because that would not hurt my feelings one iota; matter of fact, very few things that happen in this toy section of the department store we call life can hurt any feelings or get my undies' in a wad. It really shouldn't anyone elses for that matter. Just sayin'...
