I like his reporting and consider him to be realist about the situation.

However, there is a distasteful element when he gets negative in the blog about the state of UNT football. For me – I think it has to do with the fact that he has the imprimatur of being a beat writer from a valid media outlet (Belo/DRC) but is also able to render opinions in his blog about matters some of which are subjective in nature. Take for example the “cupboard is bare” debate. When a journalist is allowed to delve into this discussion daily, it allows the journalist/blogger to make excuses for or be critical of the coaching staff (depending upon the position he takes). I generally don’t like it when the distinction between journalist and commentator is blurred.

However, I’m guessing that sport's journalists are encouraged and perhaps even instructed to blog daily in order to drive page hits. Additionally, I must admit there is a lot of good information that comes out his blog event if I don't like the way it's said sometimes.

Two pages? Really? Just how many times does someone have to say that BV is NOT on the UNT payroll and is payed to provide objective coverage.....as much as possible. We already have "happy happy joy joy" press releases from the athletic department and pre-screened questions at the coach's show.

Other than disagreeing with BV about how good DD was, I find his coverage pretty objective......and refreshingly honest.

Vito is stuck in a job he doesn't like working with an NT administrative staff that rather he not be here, not a good situation. IMO, he caused a lot of his problems with the way he reported the alleged discrimination allegations at NT. This is something an athletic staff is not likely to quickly forget.

Most seem to laud Vito for his honest reporting and tell it like it is approach. The problem is that he reporting none of the bad stuff that was going on when Dickey was here and waited for Dodge to be gone before blasting him. Beat writers have to walk a fine line and it is a tough job. Vito works hard and puts out a lot of material and I give him credit. I don't think anyone faults him for his sports opinions or expects him to be a cheerleader. My problem with Vito has nothing to with his performance, it is just that his opinions and writing is almost the only outside reporting NT receives. He is the main NT source for the DRC, DMN, Texas Football as well as other publications and has been for years. He is a good reporter working under the circumstances he has, but frankly he is just overexposed here and I think his lack of enthusiasm for the job shows.

So funny to see people post that Vito "tells it like is is."

Maybe he did in the Dodge era, but so far in the DMac era, he has toed the DMac party line on every single issue. Every one. Want a regurgitation of the coaches show? Read Vito's blog.

If Todd Dodge had recruited a DT that was a fairly hot recruit, and that DT played exactly one game before quitting the team, Vito would be all over it and we would already have a reason for the departure. DMac? Not a freaking peep from Vito. Nothing except "he has left the team." and then doing a tap dance any coach would be proud of when asked abOut it on the podcast. "Move along, nothing to see here."

I read and agreed with Vito in much of what he wrote in the Dodge era and appreciated him digging for information when Dodge said things thatt didn't make sense. That Vito has been body snatched by an alien Vito clone who is either intimidated by DMac or has been manipulated to simply spout the company line.

Either way, his blog is worthless reading these days. I can get the exact same info from Mean Green Sports.
