Chapel Hill 51 – Rusk 7

UNT commits:

Sir Calvin Wallace – played with great enthusiasm; power rushed and disrupted the offense to a great degree. I do not have specifics in terms of sacks for Sir Calvin, but I noticed him making several tackles

But

Here is what the CH defense did as a whole and Sir Calvin was in the middle of much of this:

Played 12 defensive series and forced eleven three-and-outs; held Rusk out of the end zone (only Rusk TD came on a run-back of the opening kickoff – ironic, 12 seconds elapsed off of the game clock, the same time as elapsed on UL-M’s kickoff runback vs. Mean Green); and held Rusk to 98 total yards offense and three first downs.

Andrew Tucker – missed his third game in a row due to a hamstring and ankle problem. He could have played, but the decision was made to hold him out of this game (and CH does not play next week) before bringing Andrew and other injured starters back (including the starting QB) to play Athens a week from Friday – with the playoffs beginning the following weekend.

Rex Rollins – Let me begin this by again reminding you that Dan McCarney is projecting this running back as a defensive back for the Mean Green. But I hope this guy is given at least a cursory look at running back in next fall’s Mean Green training camp practices.

For those of you with a bit of age on you, Rex Rollins reminds me so much of a combination of Eric Dickerson and Duane Thomas – but with an extra dose of Thomas. This guy has power and speed, but he is so smooth that he glides – he does a great job of setting up blockers and also sets up the tacklers in such a way that they are “tackling air” as he effortlessly changes directions.

Yes, I know UNT has a stable of running backs, including at least two highly-touted redshirts – but just sayin’.

Oh, Rollins had an off-night for him (I think I said a couple of weeks ago that he was averaging about 12 yards a carry) carrying the ball 13 times for 83 yards and averaging only 6 + yards-per-carry. He also scored on a 37-yard TD.
