Stop rushing the field!

Wisconsin fans (and band) once rushed the field at a road game where they were blown out by 40 points (or something like that).

They tore down the other team's goalposts and carried them around chanting "We scored first!"

Trivia note: It was a safety.

I'm at every game in the student section front row at the 50...I rushed the field for Indiana. Convinced people not to rush it for FAU, but, come on, rushing the field for ULM? Freaking stupid.

Although I understand where you're coming from, you've also got to understand these fans' POV. The entire time I've been a student at UNT, we haven't won a homecoming game. And this is also the best home record we've had in a good, long while.

So... if the fans want to rush the field and celebrate with Mac and the players, what's the problem?

Wait, the guy that started this thread rushed the field when we beat Indiana, but is talking down on doing it for Monroe? Indiana is/was atrocious. There was no reason to rush it then either. But, who cares, as long as they're at the game and not tailgating with the frat boys on the hill, let them rush the damn field.

1. It is a good sign that this is what we're bitching about. However, You want traditions to come organically, this seems to have just, well, happened. We need anything that will get people excited about the team. The play is better, but if it creates a ravenous environment, hand out kazoos and airhorns for heaven's sake.

2. We should be so lucky to even remotely live up to "death valley jr" (Clemson). Have you ever been to a game there? It's amazing.

Rushing the field is great, I know a lot of the players and they were coming up to me to give me a high five and celebrating.. They embrace it because it makes them feel good about this program, we have lost to many damn games and lost hope so many times. When we went to Clemson last year, we walked on to the field with everyone else and its not a big deal and they beat a Sun Belt team. We were taking pictures with Bowers in a cowboy hat and he was cracking up. Its not that big of a deal, everyone just makes it one

Waking on the field after the Alma mater to talk with players is cool, but running on the field right after the final whistle like we won some kind of championship is stupid.

For it! If we win let's go crazy! I think it would be a great tradition if the student section rushed the field after every win. Doesn't make us look small time at all, and if someone says it does, headbutt them in the face! Why do we care about image so much, it smacks of inferiority complex? We don't need to be "little Nebraska" or try to be like ut or A&M in terms of game day traditions.. If we keep winning games and improving, traditions will grow and the apogee will get louder and rowdier, quit caring what other people think.

I hope that rushing the field stops too. Mainly because I hope we get to knowing how it feels to win again, but also because it's a sad display of how excited we get from doing something that we're supposed to do.

i'm just waiting for the first student to break their leg (because it's gonna happen) and then security will tighten up real fast...

in the meantime, me and the people sitting next to us were having a good time laughing at all the students who were falling down hard because they didnt realize how high the wall actually is

I was against rushing the field against Indiana because they are a terrible team, same with any SBC school unless we are in a "undefeated last game of the regular season" situation.

The Indiana rushing was terrible, the first people on the field weren't even wearing green.

Anyways here's an interesting article on why rushing the court at BBall games has become old. I know some people really dislike Rick Reilly but it's still worth a read if you guys are willing to argue over this.

I saw a few people jumping the wall onto the field. My first instinct was "oh Lord, this is pathetic"... then I realized these kids voted to pay for this stadium, they haven't seen a winner since they've been to North Texas, and they are the faithful that showed up in the face of a Rangers WS game.

So who cares. Let's just keep winning. And let's leave Apogee with a .8333 win percentage in its inaugural season.

It looks tacky when 200 people rush the field and not the entire studnt side... There were quite a large number of students in the stands with question marks over their heads as they saw people rushing the field. I was one of them. My immidiate thoughts were, "North Texas doesn't know what to do when they win, and GMG is going to go nuts over it."

I didn't expect all the old-timers to be ok with it like you guys are. This whole "let's start a new tradition" thing... Really? There's got to be something better than over celebrating an average conference game win. It's not like the game was even close at the end! Last second field goal... Maybe.. If it sealed a bowl-bid or a conference title.. for sure. But a regular old conference win? I don't think so.

You don't get to rush the field after every victory. That's what makes rushing the field a special occasion- it only happens every once in a while. Not for a double digit lead of a game that was in control most of the 4th quarter.

I'm all for partying on the hill, or lighting the tower green- or something. But not storming the field.

Amazing stuff here. I think if Coach mac thinks it's great than it is fine with me. I haven't rushed a field in many many years...who cares? If the students want to rush the field after every game...good for them. Heck, let's hope it creates an atmosphere where more students want to come to the games. Like tylermeangreen said, I don't think the hard and fast rules have been written on the proper celebration techniques for college kids and sports fans.

I, personally, love to see the excitement taking place on the field and I darn sure think the players like it...we'll see where this takes us after 5-6 years of winning football at UNT. Until then, have all the fun you want as long as you keep it safe....I mean in regards to celebrating a UNT win.

Heck, I've seen the students storm the court after a basketball win that was not a conference title win...anything wrong with that folks? Just can't see the harm.

As to this "little...small school...high school" stuff that some folks want to throw out here...if you don't see yourself as small school others won't either. Who cares what these other morons think? They don't support UNT or UNT football...I could give a rat's rear end what they think of the way our students want to celebrate a win. If it bothers you, I think you might want to think about getting your priorities a bit more in order or to think about being a little less thin skinned and just enjoy the wins!
