Yeah, you can't get too worked up about this stuff.

I used to want to literally fight a friend of mine--a Redskins fan--every time the Redskins beat the Cowboys when I was a elementary school kid because the b*stard would wear a Redskins hat the next Monday morning when we walked to school just to rub it in. If the 'Skins lost, he would bitch about the Pokes "buying off the refs".

It's good to see that stuff never goes out of style.

But seriously and FWIW, I think this thing is on the right track. Any time there's a coaching change, the program is set back a few years. That's just the way it is, and that's why hiring is so critical.

Regarding water cooler talk, just grit your teeth and tell them "Get your licks in now. Get 'em while you can."

well I guess the players are just following DMac's quotes of being to small and everything else, why should they care if they win or not when they have coach who says they are to small, couple that with the Dodge losing era and I guess we will get the 5 year Iowa State experience. At least DMac has not called the fans a bunch of MF'ers yet.

Good to know that instant gratification affects older generations beyond Gen X.

In all seriousness, it is threads like this one that are a beating on my life force. I can't believe that there are people that believe getting the program back to above .500 ball is as simple as changing a tire. The program has been in the ditch since 2005.

Nice UNT has their new motto now "Just Wait!!" Whether it is 7 yrs or 50 years lets just wait.

Why do we always seem to have the same issue year after year, yet other smaller budgeted teams tend to ignore their problems and just win.

If it's the extremely low expectations of those who post here on the "OCCUPY MEAN GREEN" board that bothers you, you need to realize something, if you haven't already?

Your invested in this program, as I and many here are too. But understand that many of those who are shooting their mouth's off are not. One poster here was begging for tickets the other day, so you figure he's not invested with this program but has a criticism and opinion of everything. Another lives hundreds of miles away and probably hasn't been to Denton in 20 years or more, yet comes on here every day and has an opinion about everything too.

We have a very cheap fan base right now. I doubt we have 3,000 MGClub donors if I had to guess? But my point being, it's real easy to set your sights low when you don't have much invested. So when you don't have much invested it's very easy to come on here and make excuse after excuse for low expectations then turn on those who expect more?

I realize he wasn't the head coach last year, but already having a year on the staff for Hugh Freeze has probably made the transition easier. That on top of the fact that many of his key players were returning has made the transition easier than ours.

If you are referring to me as the one "begging" for tickets I'd say that's a little off base. I asked to BUY a gentlemans season tickets for the game if wasn't going to use them. Apparently his wife doesn't want to sit next to my wife and I as he mentioned giving them away to students. I'm a student so I don't have to pay for tickets, just thought I would like to sit on the alumni side.

If I had one criticism of DMac it was this approach. Why go around the DFW during the Coach's Caravan, trying to convince donors to invest in this program if your message was going to be that we are not going to be very competitive?

How is that sound logic?

Maybe that contributed to the fact that we have yet to sell out our new stadium?

Having a welcoming attitude like this will certainly entice more people to invest in the program. For the record I donate, and certainly take every opportunity to talk about the positives we have to get others on board. Are we where we want to be, no. is coach Mac getting us pointed in the right direction, yes.

You running us down is accomplishing nothing.

I understand what you are saying, but what is the alternative? I'd rather have a coach who is honest in telling everyone it is going to take time but we will get there. What happened to "don't expect miracles?"

Didn't someone say FIU would lose at least 2 times in conference while everyone else was predicting an undefeated season?

Oh ya, that was me.

The opening game loss to them looks worse and worse as the season progresses

First Year Success Was All Our Wishes But...........after 7 losing years in a row I don't know what we should really be expecting here based on our trendy non-successful past in a lower tier league to boot.

We have to dominate the SBC again (preferably at a higher level ranking-wise); that is, if we don't get CUSA or MWC membership because Lady Location may finally be smiling on North Texas. Yes, Lady Luck, Lady Timing and Lady Location: We need all 3 of ya'!

The classification imbalance of MG football players on scholarships that Harry posted a thread yesterday still blows me away. (Are there Southland Conference schools who have more on scholarship than North Texas because of it)?

7 losing years in a row in the Sun 'Belt Conference is hardly a positive when you compare us to all the other conferences that have more talent across the board. In other words, this football program may have very well have bottomed out in Dodge's 5 years in what has (arguably) been called one of the 2 worst football conferences in the FBS. If it bottoms out at this level (folks) then...............we have truly really bottomed out.

 Frys' first 3 years W/L record at North Texas

1973......Won 5 games

1974......Won 2 games (this season was a surprise to many and had people talking then like many talking about D-MAC before his 1'st season is over).

1975.....Won 7 games

Been said already but what if we had had last years seniors on this year's team? I know...........would, coulda' and if "if's and but's" but who the heck knows.

Our program is just off balance right now due to poor decisions of the past & is why I think Coach McCartney was hired to build this thing in the first place and to build it with a more solid foundaton than we've see in a long time.

D-MAC's Skins Are There: I mean when North Texas hire him he was Assistant HFC at Florida and back in the day took Iowa State's program to 5 bowl games in what has been described as an impossible situation from Big 12 people. Folks, like it or not, but our situation until Apogee opened its doors has been called an impossible situation, too. Year 3 with this program might be the best barometer for an above .500 W/L (as Year 3 became Fry's 1'st above .500 season). I have no idea, though, what this classification disparity will create yet another obstacle for a football program that has seen its share of those.

The UNT cycle of football coaches:

1. Coach is hired

2. Fans claim he's the right guy for the job

3. Coach loses

4. Fans make excuses

5. Coach gets fired

6. Same fans say "I told you so."

7. Repeat cycle

If it costs money to have an opinion, then you've bested me on this one. If it takes a brain with rational thought, we'll call it even.

Wait...I thought we were having a coaching discussion. Didn't realize that could devolve so quickly into another "Look how important I am" discussion by Rick.

Diversify a little...you really should invest in a new bit. This one is tired and the reason people don't like you.

Thank you. Even if I was begging for tickets (see previous post...I wasn't), is that not a good thing? Someone begging to go to a UNT game.....what a crazy idea. But let's belittle him for trying to have an opinion. That'll get em to the stadium.

Good thing he's not on your music email chain, huh?

I don't even know what to say. I should be at a place where nothing on this board surprises me, yet it does. Daily.

Times like these just make me want to escape, go flying through the forest.

It isn't that I don't appreciate what FFR does/has done...it's just very self-aggrandizing and arrogant of him to bring it up anytime his statements/concerns/questions/what-not aren't met with agreement and lauding.

Most people who donate their time/money/effort to something do so because they truly believe in it and could care less if they're recognized and praised for their charity.

If you really want to or have the need to blame someone for the current state of NT football, here's where you need to start:

#1 - Todd Dodge - The worst coaching hire in the history of North Texas athletics and possibly Division I Football

#2 - RV - As much as he's done for NT, he has to take some blame for bringing in Teflon Todd and allowing him to go an extra, agonizing year.

As much as some of you don't like to hear it or are tired of hearing it, it's really as simple as that. Thank god RV has done a whole helluva alot to make up for it in other areas. Teflon Todd is struggling at Pitt, no surprise.....
